Carolina sound
Carolina Sound is coming to TCS on Tuesday, November 2. Carolina Sound is a vocal performance group that is now in its third year at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. The 14-member acapella group performs at events and venues from the East to the West Coast. They have both a Christian and a secular set. Please see the schedule below that we will follow so that students can attend the assembly performance.

Health class Happenings
One of the most relevant subjects we teach at the high school is health. This year, Ms. Kayla Freund is their instructor, and she brings both a passion for the subject and a creative approach to her instruction. Here are a couple of things health classes have covered in the past two weeks!
Nicotine Awareness:
It’s well-known that long-term smoking leads to major health issues like lung cancer and COPD. Sometimes, though, just hearing about symptoms isn’t enough of a deterrent, especially from new technologies like vapes in which long-term effects haven’t been documentable yet. In order to temporarily experience first-hand how long-term nicotine addiction could affect our lungs, our health class simulated a lab in which they participated in 5 minutes of aerobic activity. After a rest period, they went through the same activity but were instructed to only breathe through a straw! The students found that breathing through the straw drastically decreased their ability to intake air, which is similar to how a long-term smoker's inflamed bronchioles might make them feel.
Drug Court:
Students were placed in groups of 3-4 and chose a drug to represent in court. They researched usage, consequences, and symptoms, and wrote a script. Lawyers questioned their witnesses to hear compelling made-up stories with real statistics woven throughout to convince the judge and jury as to why their drug is the most dangerous in the world.
Chapel
Last week we kicked off a new series facilitated by our HS Bible Department. The goal for the new series is - if we desire clarity on the gospel of Jesus Christ then we “Better Call Paul” (Rom.1-8).
The series is an exploration and systematic explanation of God’s plan to save us. Week 1, kicked off by Patrick Brannon was called “100% sinful and lost” (Rom.1:18-3:20). Thanks Patrick.
Be in prayer for the following: Week 2, “100% God’s plan” (Rom.3:21-5:21); Week 3, “100% Jesus’ work” (Rom.6:1-7:25); Week 4, “100% God protected” (Rom.8:1-39); and finally, week 5, “I am unashamed and 100% all in” (Rom.1:16-17; 12:1ff).
VETERANS DINNER
The high school Beta Club is excited to bring back the annual Veterans Dinner on Thursday, November 11 at 6:30pm. This special dinner is open to any retired or active duty military and their families. Please spread the word, so that we can honor these men and women who have served so selflessly. First Semester:

Mid-Course Assessment (MCAs) Week December 13-16
In years past we have used the last week of the term as a time for students to complete a cumulative exam for each of their core subject areas. Our response to COVID and academics has allowed for a positive take away of implementing alternate forms of assessment that allow our students to really show their mastery of content in an applicable way. The implementation of the MCAs will be held for in each subject matter:
Math cumulative test
Bible, Science, History and elective courses project based assessment ie lab/activity/presentation/project/research
Literature Reading comprehension and Writing Assessment
Spanish auditory and verbal assessment
In order to maximize the time that is allocated for the half day schedule during the Week of December 13-16 here is what the schedule will look like for the MCAs:
*Regularly Scheduled classes that meet on a typical Monday/Tuesday/Thursday
Periods 1 thru 4 will meet on Monday 12/13
Periods 5 thru 7 will meet on Tuesday 12/14
Christmas Break 12/17- 1/3
Second Semester begins on Tuesday 1/4
What about GO Week?
After much consideration and numerous conversations, we have decided that it was better to air on the safe side of things and delay any potential trip opportunities to a later date. There are just so many factors to consider and other areas of the world and United States are not operating as we are in our community. Many organizations have not opened up to allowing groups to work alongside of them at this time. This year GO Week will be spread out over a month and will be done by each grade level/section of Bible classes. Mr. Whittle will be providing us with all of the details as we get closer to the first of the year.

5/16 Senior Walk
5/17 HS Honors Night - in the stadium/field
5/18 Graduation Practice and Luncheon
