Shorter, colder days force us to come inside early and remember what it’s like to live in the darkness. We’re not strangers to the darkness. We see it every day, in every season of life. It’s in our conflicts and our diagnoses, our best intentions and our hurt feelings. For some, Christmas may not feel so joyful for one reason or another and overall may feel like a dark time. Maybe it is the reminder of hard times in the past or present, the stress of juggling so many events, or just the pressure that comes from all of the extras this time of year brings our way. In Christ we do not have to feel as if we are in darkness. We should not have the dark times of our lives overshadow the joy of the season, the true reason for the season.
“Jesus spoke to them again: “‘I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life’” ~John 8:12.
Jesus is saying that He Himself is the light given to His children, illuminating the way to eternal life. Let us see the great light of life set before us. Let us hold on to Him, our only sure hope in the midst of darkness. He is our light in this life and our eternal salvation, our stronghold in the face of all fear and dread. May He awaken us from the darkness and we glory in Him as the light of the world!
Progress LearninG
During the final two weeks of school, several classes will be taking Progress Learning assessments. The purpose of these benchmark assessments is to assess students' ability to apply information and concepts taught in specific subject areas. The test covers all of the Georgia standards being taught for the year, but at this midpoint, students will be demonstrating mastery of the standards covered up until this point. The tests allow teachers to monitor academic progress and growth per Georgia standards. Please note that these tests do NOT require any preparation from the student; the tests are application oriented, therefore, there is no study guide needed. Each teacher provided details about the testing date to students. As with any standardized test, we encourage students to do their best and show what they know. Unanswered questions will be recorded as incorrect, so all students need to answer every question. If you have any other questions about Progress learning, please contact val.adams@tcslions.org.
Mid-Course Assessment DETAILS
Mid-course assessments will be given during the final week. (see schedule below) Teachers have provided the details on what type of assessment is being given and how students should prepare. Since each course is unique in content and practice, assessments will differ. Some courses will give a traditional test while others may have a project presentation or essay assignment.
Please note that the week of Monday-Thursday, December 11-December 14, is the designated week of finals and the end of the 1st semester. All students are expected to be in attendance each day that week to finish their coursework.* All grades will be finalized by the end of the week. If you have a pre-approved absence your student MUST make arrangements with their teachers to have all their class work turned in PRIOR to their absence. Any work submitted after their return will not be accepted since grades will have already been submitted.
* If a student is unable to complete their assessments due to an unexpected circumstance beyond his or her control, arrangements can be made to make up the work.
Please note that the class times end at 1:45pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday is different and the end time is 3:15pm. We will begin the dismissal process at 1:45pm and students will need to be picked up by 2:30pm. In the event that your student is not able to dismiss by 2:30pm they will be required to stay in the multipurpose room until 3:15pm on MWTH.
More Specifics About Make Up Work For
The End Of The Semester:
Progress learning: If you missed progress learning last week or end up missing biology progress learning this week, please sign up for a time tjo make it up either Monday 12/11, Wednesday 12/13 or Thursday 12/14 at 1:45. Remember that Progress Learning does not require any preparation, but it does need to be made up. Please use this link to sign up: Progress Learning Make-Up
Missed mid-course assessments: If you miss one of your scheduled assessment days (M-W) this week, you can schedule with your teacher to take the test sometime before Thursday at 3:30 pm. If this is not possible due to illness, you will receive an incomplete and make it up when you return in January. Students should communicate with their teachers if they are unable to complete these before the end of the term. As always, be sure to communicate illnesses to both hsattendance@tcslions.org and nurses@tcslions.org.
Please know that we will be here to support and help students successfully complete their first semester, and we look forward to seeing them again in 2024!
END OF SEMESTER GRADES
As we near the end of this first semester, students are encouraged to hunker down and finish strong. Any course that is not passed will have to be made up in order to receive the necessary credit for graduation. Students who fail a semester course will be notified by the counseling department of their options for credit recovery.
NHS Service Project
This past month, Trinity’s NHS Chapter was blessed to be able to serve our community through their volunteer efforts at the Coweta Pregnancy Services Gala. The center, which is able to help over 1,200 families in our area every year by offering safe pre and postnatal care to those who need extra support, is a faith based non profit located just a few miles away - a unique and accessible way to volunteer locally. Though a small organization, Coweta Pregnancy Services is able to make an enormous impact in our community, which is why our students were so honored to be able to serve at their annual gala. Through serving food, handing out goodie bags, and greeting those who attended, our students were able to play a vital role in the work done through the organization and form new relationships with families. Something as simple as free formula or a mentor to offer support can make a massive difference in the lives of the young mothers and families Coweta Pregnancy Services helps every day, which is why our NHS organization prioritizes this annual project and prides itself on the opportunity to do so!
DRESS CODE GUIDELINES FOR CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN WEEK
No spaghetti straps, tank tops, or tops with low V neck
Holes/rips/tears in jeans should not be above the knee
Mesh/see-thru tops should not be worn unless there is a full coverage top underneath it.
Shirts should touch the top of the pants, shorts, skirt, etc - if you lift your arms and I can see your skin it is too short.
Shorts must be no more than 5 inches above the knee (about the length of an index card).
Skirts must be no more than 2 inches above the knee (unless full leggings are worn underneath).
Hats may be worn all week.
Boys shirts must stay buttoned.
Full spandex body suits are not allowed.
Leggings are not allowed.
Shoes can be open toe and open back.
PE/Athletic Performance Class Uniform Update
If you are enrolled in PE/Athletic Performance class during the second semester you should have received an update regarding the implementation of the required uniform. Uniforms are available for purchase at the Roar Store.
Challenges from Chapel
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” It is incredible to know that Jesus is full of exactly what everyone needs. We live in a world in such need of both grace and truth. The grace of God invites us to be free, and the truth of God sets us free. May we be reminded this Christmas season that God’s grace is abundant as Jesus entered the world, and God’s truth transforms and develops us into the people He has called us to be. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and the source of all we need in every season. Thank you to high school teachers Chris Litton, Anna Maupin, Sam Howard, and Emily Bishop for participating in a panel discussion that helped us celebrate Christmas and highlighted the power of the Biblical narrative of the birth of Jesus. Thanks also to our worship and tech teams for working so hard and leading us so well in worship all semester long. Join us in praying for all that God will do in chapel in 2024!
LOCAL GO WEEK
Local GO Week will take place on January 2- 5, 2024 from 8am to 1pm
Lunch will be served each day. Students should plan to wear the Friday Spirit Day attire each day of this week. This means Trinity T Shirts or polos and TCS branded outerwear along with jeans with no rips, holes, or tears. Trinity branded hats may be worn.
Cap & Gown Orders
SENIORS: It is time to order your Graduation Cap & Gown!
It is hard to believe we are in December and our Senior Graduation will be here before we know it (Thursday, May 16, 2024)! The total Graduation Package is $60 which includes the cap, gown, tassel, and stole! There is a $4.95 credit card fee plus tax at checkout so the cart total will be $69.15. SCHOLARSHIP UPDATES
We continue to find new opportunities for scholarships for all types of colleges and universities across the country. Routinely make it a practice to review the scholarship document “Paying for College - Scholarship Information” in the Helpful Links and Documents section below.
aaOne new scholarship database we have added to the document is Student Scholarships.org. We have also added scholarships from Citizens Bank, Newnan Junior Service League, and Prestige Photography (Lifetouch).
Additionally, the League of Christian Schools is offering the Dr. Charles K. Smith Scholarship which can be applied to a select list of Assemblies of God colleges and universities.
SAT Spring Test Dates Released
Starting in 2024, the SAT will be a digital administration. Registration is now open for the March, May, and June test dates. Most colleges, including those that are test optional, consider SAT scores when making admission and placement decisions, and for certain scholarships. Your SAT score is a proven way to show what you’ve learned and stand out on applications.
Below are the upcoming test dates and registration deadlines for the spring administration of the SAT. You can find a test center near you to register. These seats will fill up, so don’t delay in registering in order to get the date that you would like. This mostly applies to juniors and seniors in preparation for college admissions.
