STUDENT DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The high school counseling department is multi-faceted and designed to help students identify their individual strengths and God-given uniqueness, develop a solid philosophy of work, identify potential career paths and create forward-focused goals. Through on-going classroom guidance and annual personal meetings, students develop an individualized plan for success for high school and beyond.

Meet our TCS high school counseling team:

  • Kayla Whittle serves as the Counseling Department Head and is directly responsible for serving our 11th and 12th grade students - kayla.whittle@tcslions.org

  • Brian Long is our 10th grade Academic Counselor - brian.long@tcslions.org

  • Brian Fourman is our 9th grade Academic Counselor - brian.fourman@tcslions.org

Even though the Counselors have grade level distinctions, they are all open and available to come alongside our students to assist with navigating various needs that arise.

In addition to the work that the counseling team does with individual students, they also work in conjunction with the student development team and the nursing staff to ensure that students are set up for success whether they are dealing with an extended illness, surgery or another issue that disrupts their learning. The services these three teams provide, along with our dedicated team of teachers, drive our vision -- tailoring our instruction and guidance to meet the needs of each student.

D-Groups

Jn.17:3, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” In light of God’s clear teaching, September marks the time each year that we add another component to center our high school students on the reign of God. We are initiating 18 diverse, teacher-led, and completely voluntary Discipleship Groups promoted through our Bible department. There is something for every age, personality, and gender. The groups meet at various times, days, and locations on the HS campus.

Please be in prayer for the work God will do through these small ministry communities.

Chapel

Transcript: loaded with AP. Schedule: brimming over with commitments. Sports: sunrise to sunset. Social life: overscheduled & frenetic. Down time: Netflix binging from 10PM to 1AM keeps me current. Phone: surgically attached for 24/7 connection. Energy: resurrected with Starbucks and Red Bull. Spiritual life: What’s that? God? Bible reading? Prayer? Church? No time or energy for that!

Satan’s greatest weapon is seen on every high school campus across America, even Christian high schools like TCS. He doesn’t need to make us bad as long as he can keep us busy. He doesn’t need to move teenagers to cry out against God if he can crowd out God.

The Bible department is making a clarion call to our young men and women in our series called “Can I have your attention, please?” Our newest teacher, Patrick Brannon, a God-send to our campus and a cleanup hitter in our Bible department, kicked off the series last week. He warned how satan keeps us so busy while wielding hedge clippers and chain saws to cut off our connection to Jesus (Jn.15:1ff). He urged all of us to make God the first priority and center of our lives, to yield our time and talents to His rule. Thanks, Patrick.

Be in prayer for the next couple weeks as Chris Paschal and KC Lorow further develop our series. Thanks
