Events & Announcements

God's Word is to be trusted. He has promised to go before us, to lead us and prepare the way before us. He has promised to be with us on our journey in life. Often we need the reminder to take heart, for He will not leave you or abandon you. Not in your failure or faithlessness. Not in your doubts or disappointments. Not in your wounds or wanderings. God's Word is to be trusted. What an amazing promise directly from His word that is just as true today as it was yesterday and the days ahead!

CHALLENGES FROM Chapel

This past Wednesday was our HBCU celebration for Black History Month at chapel. Many thanks to senior Jadyn Hill for hosting and leading us. It was awesome to hear a performance by our high school drumline under the direction of Fine Arts Director Tim Hurt. Following the drumline, we had the privilege of hearing from Tommy and Irisha Washington. Mr. Washington is in his 33rd year as an NBA referee and his wife is a former professional model and marketing executive for Spalding Basketball Company where she worked closely with the NBA. They shared a challenging message of faith with our students about the truth of Hebrews 16:13 - “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Our students were challenged to use the gifts that they have been given and to be sensitive to the leading of the Lord. Sometimes we think we are going in one direction but God steers us in a different direction. We must listen to His voice, follow His leading, and seize the opportunities He gives us. Pastor Eric Thomas then came and shared about HBCUs and a member of the step team from his fraternity did a step number for us. We thank all of our guests for joining us and investing in our students. We are excited to conclude our celebration of Black History Month next week.

Science and Creation

This week Brandon Arrington came to speak to our 9th grade Biology students about the intersection of science and creation. Brandon is currently a pilot for Delta and has been flying the 737 and training other pilots to do the same. He has read more than 75 books on the topics of creation, evolution, and science in the Bible and has thoroughly researched the topic from a Christian and secular point of view.  He is passionate about this topic and feels called to spread the truth to the next generation.

Brandon gave students a detailed explanation of scientific principles introduced in the Bible and confirmed by science.  He spoke to the intelligent design of our universe, DNA, the unique and amazing capabilities of animals' ability to navigate long distances, the beauty of male and female being uniquely complementary and much more. One strong point shared was, "A little bit of science will make you question your faith, but a lot of science will deeply confirm your belief in God."

Brandon opened the door for students to have confidence in their faith and be able to back up their beliefs with science. In a world where individual truths are becoming more accepted, Brandon reminded our students that there is one truth and that God created that truth.  God intelligently designed every aspect of our universe and everything in it in an instant, not by chance.

The students thoroughly enjoyed hearing from Brandon and we hope he is able to come back year after year.
