Students at Trinity are exposed to the arts from the earliest grades, even as young as the pre-school years. First through fifth graders explore music year-round, with mid and end of the year programs to perform what they are learning. Fourth grade students also learn recorders or strings as an intro to instrumental music and music theory. In fifth grade, students choose either band, orchestra, or chorus and continue to develop their music education. We find that the academics of performing arts enhance each student’s educational path, as research shows students with continued arts exposure and training become some of the most successful young professionals. Drama and Art clubs after school round out the elementary offerings for our younger students.

In middle school, students continue their arts path. By this age our belief is that they will have had enough exposure to develop a love for the arts, and many of them will choose to continue. In addition to instrumental and choral offerings, middle school students may also join the after-school Theatre Program, Drum Corps, Marching Lions or other extracurriculars.

In high school we have multiple concerts and performances planned for each school year. The frequency of these and difficulty of music and programming stretches each of these students to enjoy higher levels of the arts, and for those interested, includes college preparatory material. Choral and Theatrical programs are a great way for high school students to get involved, and our instrumental offerings are increasing as well. Our young Thespians perform plays and musicals, and the Choral program also performs throughout the school year. Our Chamber Group (combined Band and Orchestra) has a high level of musical maturity and rigor, and has multiple opportunities for festivals and competitions throughout the year. And our Marching Lions are another great extracurricular opportunity for these students. Our middle school programs are in place to be a solid feeder program for years to come, and high school is seeing the benefits of these more and more each year.

Trinity students learn from teachers who are accomplished professionals in their respective fields, and who bring a wealth of experience to their arts instruction. Students gain an appreciation and understanding for arts culture, history, and application, all in a mission-minded setting where we seek to give God the glory for the creative talents He has given each one of us. The educational, social and spiritual benefits of the arts will continue to serve our students well for years to come.

TCS is committed to nurturing an environment where the arts can thrive. Dietrich Bonhoeffer stated, “Music will help dissolve your perplexities and purify your character and sensibilities, and in time of care and sorrow, will keep a fountain of joy alive in you.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe affirmed, “A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” It is my prayer that our students will fully engage with our Fine Arts program.
