A Message to High School Parents

Dear Parents,

We are thrilled to continue sharing  the wonderful progress of our Performing Arts Program! Last week it was the Marching Band. This week it’s our Drama team. Recently, they captivated the school with their One-Act production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Their hard work and creativity truly shone through. They held three public performances on Friday and  Saturday. Their amazing  talents were on full display. Great job Lions! Next stop for these thespians is the One-Act-Play competition for the region championship. “Break a leg”!

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week, we were honored to welcome Ken Coleman to our campus. Mr. Coleman is a national best-selling author and co-host of the nationally syndicated Dave Ramsey Show.

At his Tuesday night event, Ken challenged the audience to think how they were created to contribute and find meaning and purpose in their career. He then spent 45 minutes taking audience questions and coaching individuals through their various circumstances.

On Wednesday, Ken met with our high school leadership team and answered questions related to high school academic patterns, student challenges and what he is seeing happen in relation to careers in today’s marketplace. This gave valuable insight into how we can better prepare our students for the future.

He then spoke to the entire high school in Chapel with a message on the life of Joseph. He encouraged the students to learn to wait and be patient on God’s timing and that God is always with them through even the darkest of circumstances.

Finally, after chapel, Ken hosted a breakout session with 11th and 12th grade students where he answered student questions about college, career choices, and money issues. We were truly blessed with his presence and are thankful for his generosity in blessing our school in these ways.

Securing such a notable speaker as Ken Coleman was no small feat. I want to give a special shout out to Mr. Brian Fourman, our high school lead counselor, for his hard work putting this incredible opportunity together. Also I want to thank Mark Northcutt, the TCS Director of Donor Development, and the sponsors who made this possible.

It’s our hope that other opportunities such as this will be possible for our TCS family.

Best regards,

Blake Bass

Assistant Head of School

Interim High School Principal

Academic Matters

Remember that communication is key! If a student has questions about a particular class, they are encouraged to reach out to their teacher and find a time to meet. We want to partner with families to ensure the success of each student.

Need some help with one of your classes? Thursday morning tutoring may be a great option for you! The TCS Beta Club and National Honor Society members are available to provide tutoring in academic subjects. Tutoring sessions will take place in Room 501 on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:10 a.m. TCS students should use this form to register for a session. WHAT COLLEGE IS A GOOD MATCH FOR ME?

Trying to figure out what college makes sense? Not sure you can go to college at all based on your GPA? If that is the case, GEORGIA MATCH IS FOR YOU!

Georgia Match is a simple way for students to know where they are eligible for admission, based on their recent high school calculated HOPE grade point average (GPA). The Georgia Student Finance Commision is helping students see where they could attend college in Georgia based on their current academic record and then to apply to institutions that they are most interested in attending.

NOVEMBER - APPLY TO COLLEGE MONTH

Georgia Apply to College (GAC) is part of the American College Application Campaign, a national initiative of ACT's Center for Equity in Learning to increase the number of students accessing postsecondary education. In support of GAC each year, the Governor has proclaimed November to be Georgia Apply to College Month.

Many schools within Georgia waive their application fees during the month of November. In support of this initiative, the counseling department will be encouraging our seniors to apply to at least one college in the month of November.
