The Road to Boy’s Volleyball at TCS
By Samantha DePriest
For years, Trinity Christian School has had a competitive Girls Volleyball program. However, a couple of years back our High School Student Council hosted a Boys Powderpuff Volleyball event in May of 2022. Multi-sport athletes learned the basics of how to play and came out ready to compete from grades 9 - 12. That was all it took for the sport to take off at TCS.
TCS Boys Volleyball Coach and TCS Dad Greg Price shares how it all started. "Who would have thought a legitimate Boys Volleyball program and college scholarships would’ve come from this event? Once the fire was lit, a few boys made a path for development and to play the game at a high-level.”
With these core group of boys, TCS parents and coaches Greg and Erin Price have worked hard to lay a foundation for Trinity to have a boys high school volleyball program. Coach Price goes on to share, “The athletic department was very supportive and allowed the program to have resources to give the program some wings. In its second year, the program doubled in size and had a JV and varsity team for 2024. We were blessed to have a few multi-sport athletes, who also played in the Powderpuff game, join the team and gave us a competitive edge. Drake Price and Sam Taylor have been blessed with college offers to play at the next level. Currently, the team is poised to make a run for the state championship this year. We thank God and the Trinity Lions family for making this dream come true."
Mr. Lance Duncan, TCS Athletics Director, shares “I love that we can continue to offer more sports and activities to our student body to get involved in. I am excited for the development of the boys volleyball program inside of GHSA and look forward to when this sports moves from a Club sport until a fully recognized GHSA school sport in the coming months and years.”
Senior Drake Price has been at TCS since 1st grade. He has competed and excelled in Boy’s Volleyball, Basketball, and Golf. This past Thursday night during the Boy/s Volleyball Senior night and home match, he officially committed to play at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. Drake was surrounded by family, friends, teammates, his Youth Pastor, and even by Coach Alfonso Alvarez, Head Volleyball Coach from Campbellsville University, on Facetime. Coach Alvarez called Drake a “difference maker” and expressed his excitement for him joining the family.
Samuel Taylor has been at TCS for 7 years and has competed with both Soccer and Boys Volleyball. Samuel also had his official signing after the match on Senior Night and was surrounded by family and friends. Samuel will be attending Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, Georgia. Coach Joe Herrera also attended along with some of the TMU men’s volleyball players and spoke words of encouragement over Samuel for his future plans.
Mr. Duncan goes on to share, “It is so great that we have players going on to represent our school and getting to play at the next level. We are super excited for them as they get to go impact their new campuses!” The sky is the limit for our Boys Volleyball Program at TCS and we can’t wait to cheer on these two student athletes next year as they compete at the college level.
