Carolina sound was a hit

This week we hosted Carolina Sound, an acapella singing group out of Mt. Olive University in North Carolina. This ministry touring group sang and ministered through a variety of Christian, Showtune, Pop and other styles, and connected perfectly with our students. They showed ministry through song and truly honored the Lord. And they also inspired our students on next level performance and how we can use our gifts to honor God! It was such a great experience for our students.

Parking Matters

We are constantly making improvements to our grounds and facilities. A key area of focus has been to resolve some of our parking matters. One area of improvement was to the student parking area closest to Heirloom. Another part of our improvement was to conduct a traffic and parking study.  Based on these improvements and results, we are pleased to share that we are now able to accommodate all of our student drivers in our paved lots. Beginning Monday, 11/15/21, all students will need to be parked in a designated paved student parking area. We will no longer be utilizing the grass parking areas that are along the Peachtree City entrance/exit and football field during the school day. This parking area will now only be open for after school events.

JEANS

Currently students are permitted to wear jeans (no rips, holes, tears) on Friday for spirit day and on any day during the week with a Trinity branded dress code collared shirt. Mrs. Maupin’s Government classes recently participated in a mock congress activity. There were a number of excellent student ideas that were passed along to the High School leadership team for reviewing and to veto or to pass. I am sure that you can imagine that extended lunches and dress code adjustments were a key point of interest for these proposed bills. As a test run for a potential adjustment to the dress code taken from the proposals, students will be permitted to wear jeans (no rips, holes, tears) with any dress code approved collared shirt on any day. All other dress code guidelines will remain the same.

Reminder:

CELL PHONE OR OTHER ELECTRONICS DEVICES POLICY

Students are not allowed to use such devices in the classroom. Any cell phone or electronic device being used inappropriately will be confiscated and may be picked up from administration at the end of the day.  Phone or device usage will result in the appropriate consequences based on our discipline policy.

“What’s up in class?”

Science Scene

Our Chemistry students have been learning about The Ideal Gas Law.  You may recognize the formula PV=nRT. In a recent lab the students were given popcorn kernels and were asked to find the pressure in which a kernel pops open.  If you are curious, the answer is 9.2 atm.  The students did a phenomenal job creating their own lab procedures, and calculating the pressure.

Our Biology students just finished learning about Prokaryotes.  Prokaryotes are living single celled organisms that do not have a nucleus.  One example is bacteria.  After learning about 'helpful' and 'harmful' bacteria the students went around the entire school looking samples.  They swabbed, plated, grew several colonies, and later identified them by name.  If you were wondering, the cleanest areas of the school are the bathrooms!

Our Biology students also began studying DNA this week. They are exploring DNA's truly intelligent design (no wonder since God is the designer) and how it relates to DNA's function.  We were able to build a DNA double helix structure out of students in the hallways of our school.  Each student represented a single nucleotide.  I really think they get it!  As a follow-up to that activity, the students got their hands dirty with strawberry DNA lab.  They mashed, washed, and separated DNA from the rest of the strawberries cellular organelles and held it in their hands.  Even though it looks like snot, the lab was a hit!

Chapel

Week two in our new series “Better Call Paul” (Rom.1-8) was a dynamic build on top of the beautiful foundation laid by Patrick Brannon in week one. Chris Paschall effectively tackled Rom.3:21-5:21. Through deep passion, great clarity, and textual emphasis Chris transitioned us from the abysmal bad news that we are all doomed in our sins and awaiting the wrath of God to we are all offered staggering mercy and unrelenting grace. He then challenged us to realize that there are only three responses to God’s work in Christ: we can be indifferent to God’s beautiful offer of Jesus, we can try harder to overcome our sins on our own, or we can receive what God achieved through Christ with gratitude. It is only the latter that will deliver us from the wrath of God and make us a new creation. Chris, thanks for your preparation and your admonitions. Be in prayer for the remaining messages, speakers, and students.

Looking ahead to plan and save the dates

First Semester:

  • Thanksgiving Break 11/22-11/26

  • Mid-Course Assessment (MCAs) Week December 13-16

In years past we have used the last week of the term as a time for students to complete a cumulative exam for each of their core subject areas.  Our response to COVID and academics has allowed for a positive take away of implementing alternate forms of assessment that allow our students to really show their mastery of content in an applicable way.  The implementation of the MCAs will be held for in each subject matter:

  • Math cumulative test

  • Bible, Science, History and elective courses project based assessment ie lab/activity/presentation/project/research

  • Literature Reading comprehension and Writing Assessment

  • Spanish auditory and verbal assessment

In order to maximize the time that is allocated for the half day schedule during the Week of December 13-16 here is what the schedule will look like for the MCAs:

*Regularly Scheduled classes that meet on a typical Monday/Tuesday/Thursday

  • Periods 1 thru 4 will meet on Monday 12/13

  • Periods 5 thru 7  will meet on Tuesday 12/14

  • Christmas Break 12/17- 1/3

  • Second Semester begins on Tuesday 1/4

What about GO Week?

After much consideration and numerous conversations, we have decided that it was better to air on the safe side of things and delay any potential trip opportunities to a later date. There are just so many factors to consider and other areas of the world and United States are not operating as we are in our community. Many organizations have not opened up to allowing groups to work alongside of them at this time. This year GO Week will be spread out over a month and will be done by each grade level/section of Bible classes. Mr. Whittle will be providing us with all of the details as we get closer to the first of the year.

Second Semester:

  • 4/14 Prom - High School ½ day

  • 5/16 Senior Walk

  • 5/17 HS Honors Night - in the stadium/field

  • 5/18 Graduation Practice and Luncheon

  • 5/19 Graduation - in the stadium/field
