Fifties Day Celebration

On March 9th, we will celebrate our last 50 days left of school 1950’s Style. Students are encouraged to wear outfits you would see from the 1950’s. We will decorate our school and cafeteria like a Fifties Diner and sell coke floats and entertain the students with popular music and games from this fun time period.

YOUR ATTIRE SHOULD BE VERY CLEAR THAT YOU ARE REPRESENTING THE 1950’s THEME - IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PARTICIPATE, THEN YOU NEED TO BE IN NORMAL DRESS CODE.

Dress Code Guidelines

  • Holes/rips/tears in jeans should not be above the knee

  • Mesh/see-thru tops should not be worn unless there is a full coverage top underneath it.

  • The fingertip rule for shirts, shorts, and skirts applies to every angle - front, back, and side

  • Leggings may only be worn with a top that meets fingertip length

  • Shirts should touch the top of the pants, shorts, skirt, etc - if you lift your arms and we can see your skin, it is too short

  • No spaghetti straps, tank tops, or tops with low v neck

  • Form-fitted/wetsuit style attire is not permitted

  • Hats may be worn

General Rule:

If you have concerns about your outfit...just pick out something else to wear!

Challenges from Chapel

God has been moving in the hearts of our students all year long in both our senior and underclassmen chapel environments. We are so grateful for this weekly time to worship, learn, connect, and grow. This past Thursday in senior chapel, TCS high school teacher and local pastor Rev. Kevin Jackson powerfully illustrated the tug of war constantly present in our lives between sin and temptation and actions that honor the Lord. Mr. Jackson challenged our students to consistently pause, be mindful of factors that lead to sin and temptation, and make the choice to not let go of the rope and and strive to honor Christ in all we say and do. In our underclassmen chapel, the Rev. BJ Cobb from First Baptist Church, Senoia faithfully preached from Colossians 3, challenging our students to let the peace of Christ rule our hearts, the word of Christ dwell within us, and to let the name of Christ reign over all we say and do. We are very grateful for these men of God and their faithfulness to His word. Join us in praying that the Holy Spirit will continue transforming our students’ hearts by developing the character of Christ in them, thus producing the conduct of Christ!

HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE NEXT YEAR

Check out the new schedule!

This new schedule will take us from a traditional 7 period schedule to a modified block schedule with a “skinny” day where students will see all classes..  This schedule keeps us operating from 7:30am - 3:30pm each day with students receiving .5 credit each semester. This transition helps to reach a main goal of increasing the seat time for our students.

Along with giving us time for two lunch periods each day, .here are a few more benefits that we have gleaned from our research and collaboration with other educators at various schools:

  • Improved teaching and learning - With longer blocks, teachers have more time to complete lesson plans and to examine and re-evaluate practices. More class time is available to develop key concepts, incorporate creativity into instruction, and try a variety of classroom activities that address different learning styles.

  • Ability to Focus Attention -  With block scheduling, students and teachers are able to focus on fewer subjects, and to explore them in greater depth. Both teachers and students assert that this exploration allows them to become engrossed in the subject matter rather than moving rapidly through material.

Stronger Interpersonal Relationships - Teachers get to know students more personally which enables them to adapt lessons to the interests of their students. This extensive personal interaction between teacher and student, frequently touted as the highest motivation for student learning, is strengthened through block scheduling
