A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

Week 1 was a huge success! We have thoroughly enjoyed having your children back on campus. We spent much of the first week learning new policies and procedures while also enjoying a little fun too! As we head into Week 2, let me encourage you to stay up to date on your child’s progress academically. Blackbaud is our learning management system at TCS and serves as a great resource for staying informed about lesson plans, assignments, and grades. Use the guidance below for accessing this important information throughout the school year.

BLACKBAUD CLASSROOM INFORMATION

Blackbaud is going to be your main source of information this year. Once you login, you will see a drop down arrow in the top left corner to choose which student’s information to look at. When you click on your 4th or 5th grade student, you will see summary information, and then when you scroll down, you will see each of your student’s classes. Each class is clickable. Please click on your student’s homeroom class to see the weekly newsletter for 4th or 5th grade. Once you are in your student’s homeroom class, it will open up the Bulletin Board. Here is where you will find the clickable link for the newsletter that will be added each week. Any important information for the week will be found here.

To find information on each specific class, you will go back to the main page for your student and click on each individual class. Again, when you click on the desired class, it will open to that class’ Bulletin Board. Here you will find helpful information such as what to do should your student be absent. For information regarding lesson plans that will include the plans for the week, homework assignments, and any upcoming tests, quizzes, or projects, you will need to click on the “Topics” tab.

To recap:

  • Weekly newsletter is found on your student’s homeroom Bulletin Board.

  • Lesson plans, assignments, etc…are found in the specific classes Topic tab.

HOW ARE WE DOING?

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

We are kicking off our chapel season this upcoming week.

LIONS OF THE WEEK

  • Coming Soon!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: UPCOMING UPPER ELEMENTARY DATES

  • August 14: 4th Grade Curriculum Night

  • August 21st - PICTURE DAY - More details to come soon

  • September 1st - REMOTE LEARNING DAY - No School

  • September 4th - SCHOOL HOLIDAY - No School

THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE:

As you may notice, our 4th-8th graders memorize the same verses each year. These memory verses are selected intentionally based on the promises and truths they contain that are so relevant for our students as they learn to follow Jesus. Our hope is that these 20 verses will be remembered for years to come after being memorized for multiple years in Upper Elementary and Middle School.

Romans 8:28

v. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

JUST READ QUARTER 1

We want to invite all of our 4th and 5th graders to participate in our voluntary reading program this year called “Just Read”. Appropriately named, we “just want our students reading” outside of class time independently. Students should use the form below to record their reading for Q1 (first 9 weeks of school). Completed forms should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher at the end of Quarter, with a prize coming from Mr. Vinson to all who complete the challenge!

Quarter 1 Just Read Form

BEGINNING OF YEAR BENCHMARK TESTING

As we kickoff the new school year, our students will be participating in benchmark testing at various times throughout the first two weeks of school. Students will be assessed in both ELA and Math to help inform the instruction for each class section this semester. Students will test in both December and May as well to show areas of growth and improvement over the course of this school year.

4th GRADE CURRICULUM NIGHT

4th grade families, mark your calendars for our special curriculum night on August 14 at 6pm as we welcome you to 4th grade! This night will be a chance for you to meet the 4th grade teachers and understand better the transition from Lower School to Upper Elementary. We hope you can join us!

The following steps should be taken for reporting absences for 4th - 8th grade:

  • Send excuses for absences, including doctor’s notes to attendance@tcslions.org.

  • Send PRE-ABSENCE REQUESTS (family trips, etc.) to Kasey Hanson (kasey.hanson@tcslions.org) via your child’s homeroom teacher.

If your child has to miss class this year due to sickness or quarantine, check out our process below for getting your child caught up on missing work and assignments. Please also notify the nursing team to make them aware of surgeries or long-term illnesses at nurses@tcslions.org.

  • WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT 1-5 DAYS? - Have your child connect with their teachers upon their return to the classroom. We will not send makeup work home for sick absences of this length through our Return to Academics program.

  • WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT 5+ DAYS? - Reach out to Kasey Hanson (Return to Academics Coordinator) so we can best determine a makeup plan for your child. Mrs. Hanson will help collect makeup work for you to simplify the process.

  • NOTE: If your child is sick, we want your child to focus on resting and healing before worrying about missing assignments. Please know our teachers will work diligently to help your child catch up once they are feeling well enough to complete assignments.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN - celebrations, parties and goodbyes! It’s the final week of school and summer break is only days away. What a year we have had! The blessings are countless when I think back on all the LORD has done for us this year. I’m so proud of our students and the growth we have seen in each of them this year. All glory goes to God for the many accomplishments we have seen. We look forward to ending this year strong with a week of celebration both in and out of the classrooms.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Moore, our 7th grade Bible teacher, challenged our students from Philippians 2 and the call each Christian has to work out their salvation. In addition, PRIORITIZE ATTENDANCE for these days. Students are required to make up any missed Progress Learning testing, so to avoid being pulled or staying after school, please prioritize your child being present and punctual each day.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

The tomb is still empty and Jesus has still won the great victory over death! As we come out of Easter Sunday, don’t let the resurrection be a truth that is celebrated only once a year. As the Apostle Paul reminds us in I Corinthians 15, the resurrection of Jesus is our great hope and the foundation of our faith. He lives, and because of that, we can face tomorrow, and every day, knowing that He is ruling and reigning forever. Amen! Come Lord, Jesus!

HOW ARE WE DOING?

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson spoke to our students on I Thessalonians 4:13-18 which contains the upcoming week’s memory verses for our students. Pointing our students to the hope found in Jesus’ resurrection and certain return, Mr. Vinson encouraged our students to see that when Jesus comes, we will enjoy REUNION with loved ones who have passed away, our own RESURRECTION when our bodies are radically transformed to a state that is free from sin and death, and we will REMAIN with Jesus forever at that time. As believers, we will undoubtedly have our lives impacted by death, but as Christians, we grieve with hope because our Savior lives!

I Thessalonians 4:14, 17-18

v. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.  v. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.  v. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson spoke to our students from Psalm 119:9-11 (this week’s memory verse) and emphasized the importance of memorizing Scripture, not for the purpose of passing a quiz, but instead for the purpose of fighting sin and obeying God. The phrase “what we know will determine how we go” was used to reinforce the biblical idea that what we know about God (His character, His promises, etc.) will help determine how we go throughout each day. By memorizing the Bible, the Holy Spirit will help us recall important truths to fight through temptation and navigate challenging circumstances as they come. May our kids embrace a love for God’s Word by memorizing it well!
