Lower School’s

Learning Enrichment Opportunity (LEO) Program

LEO (Learning Enrichment Opportunity) is a pull-out program for high achieving students in 1st-3rd grades. This program provides an opportunity for challenge beyond classroom academics and the flexibility needed to help meet the needs of individual students. This opportunity is accomplished through enrichment and accelerated learning. The LEO program is full of differentiated activities and projects that cover complex and challenging subject matter, leading students in research, integration of experiences, and interdisciplinary connections. LEO gives the student another avenue to stretch and grow outside the classroom.

LEO Club is specially designed for kindergarten and first grade students to develop deductive, inventive, analytical, and evaluative thinking skills. LEO Club targets Kindergarten students during the spring semester and first grade students during the fall semester. LEO Club is structured differently in that all students participate in a 30 minute class each week. Our goal is for everyone to experience practice with higher level thinking skills while identifying those who demonstrate readiness for the LEO program.

Our LEO guidelines and qualifications have been updated this year. Invitations for 2nd and 3rd grade students will be sent out based on qualifications beginning Tuesday, August 30th. 1st grade invitations will be sent in January for the spring semester. Please click on the link for more detailed information regarding program qualifications, standards, and goals.

Meet the Director of our Lower School LEO program

Jennifer Duncan is our Lower School Director of LEO.  Jennifer Duncan has been a part of the Trinity family for the past 12 years. She began teaching in our first-grade classrooms in 2010 and is excited to watch her first TCS class of “Duncan Kids” graduate this year! Jennifer and her husband, Ryan have been married for 23 years. Their daughter, Gracyn has been at Trinity since Kindergarten and is also a Senior this year! You can find their family in the stadium supporting our Lions under Friday night lights or serving at Fine Arts performances all around campus. Jennifer is gifted certified, seasoned in elementary education, and eager to tackle our Lower School LEO program this year!

House System Overview for 1st-3rd Grades

Did you know your child has been placed in a house this year??? A special feature of Trinity’s elementary school experience is our house system, which allows students to experience a sense of belonging, camaraderie and healthy competition throughout the school year. Elementary students are placed by grade level in one of five houses named for historical Christian figures: Elisabeth Elliot, C.S. Lewis, Watchman Nee, Jackie Robinson and John Wycliffe. Students are given opportunities to learn and demonstrate healthy character traits for impacting culture positively around them. Houses vie for the distinguished honor of capturing the House Cup at the end of our year-long competition. Learn more about our houses at www.tcshouses.weebly.com

  • 1st Grade = ROBINSON HOUSE

  • 2nd Grade = ELLIOT HOUSE

  • 3rd Grade = LEWIS HOUSE

  • 4th Grade = NEE HOUSE

  • 5th Grade = WYCLIFFE HOUSE

This Week’s House Focus: ROBINSON HOUSE

Character Trait to Remember: STAND AGAINST CULTURE WHEN IT IS WRONG

Staying Informed and Up-to-date with Classroom Happenings

To stay informed of what’s happening in your child’s classroom, please login into Blackbaud weekly. You will be able to see information such as weekly classroom announcements, upcoming events, weekly academic focus, grades, attendance, etc. This is the key to staying informed and replaces hardcopy newsletters. I encourage you to login each week. Information will be updated each Sunday at 5pm.

Accessing your child's class information weekly:

  • Login to your Blackbaud account and select your child's name under "Children".

  • After selecting the homeroom class, you will see the teacher's main class page where you will locate upcoming dates, class reminders and news.

  • Select the "Topics" tab to see specific information for each individual subject. Within each subject folder, you will see a plan for the week and upcoming projects and test information.
