Inside the Pride Nurses Department News

5 Keys to start the school year

1. Hydration!  During these first few weeks of school the hot temps and fun times playing with  new friends often lead to kids not drinking enough water. This dehydration can cause headaches, constipation, stomach aches, dizziness, and much more.  Please encourage your student to drink plenty of water throughout the day both at school and at home.

2. Communication!  Communication with our nursing staff is vital to us helping your child have the best and healthiest experience possible.  If your child has a health concern, allergy, or needs medication please make sure it is documented in their Blackbaud chart and feel free to reach out to us at nurses@tcslions.org with any questions or concerns you may have.  We will be available at Welcome to the Roar to answer any questions and receive any medications, Epi- Pens, or Inhalers that you need to bring to us.

3. Hygiene!  Please remind your students of the importance of good handwashing, covering their sneezes or coughs, and (for those entering the preteen years) the importance of deodorant and daily showers.  Always good things to practice at home that will make the classrooms a little more pleasant.

4. Feed their brains!  Over the summer your student may have enjoyed sleeping in and not eating breakfast but as we head back to school please encourage a healthy breakfast each morning before school so that they can be at their best for class.  We do not keep extra snacks or food on hand so please make sure they have plenty of snacks in their bag to get through each day.

5. Wellness!   Our goal is to help each child get as much happy and healthy class time as possible. In order to do this we would like to remind you that if your student has had any type of fever they must remain at home until they have been fever free for over 24 hours (with no fever reducing medications). The same goes for any gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting or diarrhea. They must be 24 hours past the last symptom prior to returning to school. This helps protect our classrooms and slow the spread of illness.
