Dr. Anthony Shares A Chapel Lesson in

What Matters Most

By Samantha DePriest

What a special time in Lower School and Early Learning Chapel this past week. TCS Head of School Dr. Mark Anthony introduced a new chapel series, “Buried Treasure.” Through an interactive, fun lesson and the parable of the hidden treasure in Matthew 13:44, Dr. Anthony encouraged the littlest lions on campus to consider what they treasure most.

Dr. Anthony wore a backpack full of objects students may treasure like a gaming controller, a cell phone, and toys. However, a simple wooden cross was the most treasured object in his backpack as a reminder of what truly brings comfort, hope, and love. Lower School Principal Mrs. Sherry Randolph shared, “while many things in life bring us joy, nothing compares to the greatest treasure of all, which is knowing Jesus!” Dr. Anthony reminded students that when Jesus is the greatest treasure, His love shapes how we live, love, and treat others.

A handful of third grade TCS parents were at Lower School Chapel supporting their students who serve in the Third Grade Worship team as well. Mrs. Randolph shared, “We hope you will continue this conversation at home and remind your child of the beautiful truth we learned together: Jesus is my greatest treasure!”

Each Lower School Chapel service, students participate in a time of worship. The third grade worship team was created three years ago to help further cultivate a heart of worship in our students. Mrs. Sherry Randolph, Lower School principal, shared “I consider our third graders to be the leaders of our Lower School. I am excited to provide an opportunity where they can shine God’s light before others.” The Third Grade Worship Team is made up of students who have a desire to lead and perform at our Wednesday morning Chapel services on stage in front of their classmates.

Mrs. Leslie Cook, Lower School Academic Dean, leads this group of amazing worship leaders in the making and enjoys teaching and further developing students on how to lead the student body through worship and song. They perform two songs during chapel, typically one upbeat praise song with choreographed moves and one worship song. It doesn’t take long for the rest of the students to learn the words and motions to each song.

Parents have shared that their children can't wait to be in third grade to be a part of the worship team and teachers hear the excitement in the classroom from all the students about the anticipation of third grade worship team. The vision of the program is to continue building anticipation for chapel by raising up servant leaders both on stage and in the seats while developing hearts for worship.
