A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Does playing a musical instrument make you smarter? There are countless studies that have been conducted to prove that playing instruments does indeed accomplish this. This month is the second month we will promote articles and research that prove the academics of music education. This is so important to us, and we want you to know why. Don’t just take our word for it, check out these articles we are referencing. Each month throughout this school year we will reference a different article, a different study. We hope you will take the time to read and discover how much music truly benefits your student. The investment is well worth it, and will prove rewarding for their entire life!

CHARLIE BROWN - MOVED TO THE SPRING

Please note, we have moved our Middle School musical performances of Charlie Brown to the Spring.  Rehearsals will resume in January, and performance dates will be released once determined.  More information to come…

MARCHING LIONS HIGHLIGHTS - COWETA COUNTY MARCHING BAND EXHIBITION

Our Marching Lions recently participated in the Coweta County Marching Band Exhibition.  We joined four other high schools (Pike County, Northgate, Newnan, and East Coweta) and we performed our shows for each other in this festival format.  This is our first year joining this Exhibition, and our students were so encouraged by their experience.

Four years ago we began with a Middle School Drum Corps.  Shortly after, we added a Varsity Drum Corps as the students’ skill progressed.  Last year we then added winds and Color Guard, and performed standing on the track.  This year is our first year marching formations on the field, and created the opportunity for us to participate in the Exhibition.

The marching community is a family.  We were welcomed by each of the other schools, and received nothing but compliments and encouragement.  Our students are ready for higher levels, their creative juices are flowing, and they are forming memories that will last a lifetime!

LEE UNIVERSITY STUDENT EXPERIENCE

Recently we took 50 students to Lee University in Cleveland, TN for an Arts Experience custom designed by the Lee U faculty. Students were able to see a fully functioning arts program at the collegiate level, learn what it takes to be a music major, and have breakout sessions particular to their areas of interest. They explored instrumental, vocal, theatrical, technical and worship tracks, and the dialogue was enlightening for all. Thank you to Lee University for hosting us, and for all of our leaders for your efforts and investment in these students. We are praying for God’s perfect will for each of them, and are seeing their eyes open to His path more and more each day!

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Our Performing Arts staff are committed to the academic success of each student that frequents our rehearsal rooms.  This year more than ever, we are focused on the well-rounded student, knowing that they will soon be the young adults of our world who will have influence over their generation and future generations to come.  They will become professionals in music, law, education, trades, and so much more.  And we firmly believe that their involvement in the Arts is a key to their long term success.

“Music research indicates that music education not only has the benefits of self-expression and enjoyment, but is linked to improved cognitive function, increased language development from an early age, and positive social interaction. Music listening and performance impacts the brain as a whole, stimulating both halves – the analytical brain and the subjective-artistic brain, affecting a child’s overall cognitive development and possibly increasing a child’s overall intellectual capacity more than any other activity affecting the brain’s bilateralism.”  This excerpt is taken from the attached article (click below to open and read the full article) and supports our theory that as students develop cognitively, the Arts is a major asset for their success.

We are so glad you have chosen to be involved in the Arts.  There are so many different facets to what we do, and we would love to explore with you ways for your students to become further involved.  As always, we’re here to help.

NATIONAL FINE ARTS FESTIVAL - ORLANDO

Wow - what a week!  25 students took part in the National Fine Arts Festival in Orlando, Florida, competing in a variety of categories all pertaining to the Arts: instrumental, vocal, theatrical, preaching, and physical art just to name a few.  This festival encourages students to develop their Arts abilities in many different areas, and to do it for God’s glory and purpose.  Our theme this week was to stay on mission and in tune with God’s purpose, and it was a catalyst for many great conversations.  Each of our students has grown tremendously through this process, and we know great things are in store!

Stay tuned for more information about Fine Arts 2023.  This is an annual festival we participate in, and 6th through 12th graders are eligible.  Mark your calendars for March 17-18, 2023 when we will again host District Fine Arts on the Trinity campus.

STRIKE UP THE BAND!

Welcome to Trinity!  For our new families and returning students alike, it’s not too late to get involved in the band.  Whether one of our concert band electives during the school day, or our Marching Lions as we bring spirit and energy to our school, this is such a great place to belong.  We hope you will consider getting involved.

  • Concert Bands - our first band opportunity starts in 5th grade.  We systematically teach our students, and by the time they graduate they are ready for college programs, or simply to enjoy music for the rest of their lives.

  • Marching Lions - this is our marching band, and such a fun way to enjoy the fall football season and beyond.  We challenge our students in a variety of ways, as they join the Pep Band (winds), Drum Corps, or Color Guard.

6th GRADE HONOR BAND

Three members of the Trinity Christian 6th Grade Band were selected to perform with the Fayette County 6th Grade Honor Band on Saturday, May 21. After 4 hours of rehearsal, the students performed a great concert for their family and friends. Congratulations to these outstanding students. Pictured Left to Right: Samuel Leyimu, Kaleb Simmons and Isabelle Chammami.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

We are at the end of the school year, and it’s a great time to reflect on all that has happened in the Arts at Trinity.  We are continually making progress and seeing new opportunities for our students to thrive in the Arts, and your support and participation are what make it as great as it is!  Thank you so much for partnering with us as we promote creative ways for our students to get involved.  We are all better for it!

Here is a look at some things that were new to Trinity with the 2021-22 school year…

Color Guard - In the Fall we began our very first Color Guard led by Mrs. Kim Pinkerton.  Special thanks to you, Mrs. Kim!  Seven students picked up flags for the very first time, and the color and visuals they added were a huge upgrade!  Well done, Ladies!

Pep Band - We also added a wind section to our Marching Band with these six students creating the first layer of winds and melody that will grow for years to come.  With this addition, we now have Color Guard, Drum Corps and Pep Band - together they make the newly formed “Trinity Marching Lions!”

MS Musical - This year we had our inaugural Middle School-only musical, Into the Woods, JR. and the creation of our Middle School MANEstage Productions.  This will be an annual tradition with our Middle School students having a production to own themselves.  Thank you so much, Mrs. Emily Litton for your tireless efforts here, and for promoting Theatre fully within the Middle School.  This is so exciting for these young actors and technicians.

Drum Club - We also started a new group in the Spring semester used to promote interest with our younger percussionists.  This group was made up of 5th grade and Middle School students, and they explored a variety of percussion instruments and methods.  It was so much fun!  Special thanks to Dr. Kathy Brown!

Staffing - We welcomed onto our team a few stellar staff members in part time or full time roles.  Mrs. Kaela Lawrence helped with several shows as our choreographer, Mr. Dale Zarlenga helped with several shows as our choral director, and Mrs. Lizzie Perez directed the High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast.  Thank you so much for the excellence you brought this school year.

Two of these individuals will take on expanded roles in 2022-23.  Mrs. LIzzie has now become our Theatre Director of the entire Theatre Department.  We see amazing things to come as this department continues to grow and expand.  Mr. Dale will take on an additional role as our High School Chorus Director.  This will also bring energy and vision to these Choral students as they develop their talents.  Welcome to the team!

Mrs. Sharissa Manwaring has also increased her role as she is now our Orchestra Director.  With the retirement of Dr. Barbara Salter, Mrs. Manwaring has stepped up to the plate and we are already seeing results.  The students are motivated, learning is a constant, and retention of these students from grade to grade is happening!  Well done, Mrs. Manwaring!

As a final note, I want to say thank you for your prayers.  I have been impressed throughout this school year that we are not just creating good musicians in your students.  We are raising them up to be a light in the Arts world and in whatever calling God has for them.  It is so important that we keep our feet grounded on God’s Word and His promises.  It is vital that we put our faith in the only One who is faithful.  It is imperative that we walk in the freedom Christ came to purchase for us all, redeeming us from sin and giving us liberty to worship the God of all the Universe.  He is the Master Creator, and we want Him to receive all the glory as we rehearse and perform!
