A Note from the Director

We are rolling!  We are rehearsing!!  And we are already performing!!!  Classes have started, and we could not be more excited!!!  Theatrically, vocally, instrumentally, and technically, students are already showing their potential, and the future is bright at TCS!!!  As we continue throughout these first few weeks, please feel free to reach out to any of our Performing Arts staff.  We are glad to help, as we want to cultivate a creative space for each of our students to thrive in.

Come check out our Marching Lions this Friday at our first football game as we present The Greatest Showman and cheer our Lions on to victory.  Respond to one of the many theatrical opportunities launched at our recent interest meeting to let your student take the stage.  And celebrate our students who just came back from Columbus, Ohio and the National Fine Arts Festival.  These are just a few highlights early in the year.  There is so much to celebrate, and so many exciting adventures in store.

Parents, thank you already for your amazing support for the Arts.  We feel it, and we appreciate it!!  Please let us know if you would like to jump in and help, we love involving the whole family.  Here’s to an amazing year ahead, and realizing God’s full potential in and through all of us!!

“Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.”

Our mission statement in the Arts involves “Bearing the image of the Creator”.  Our first goal is to model Christ in all that we do, and to inspire our students to want to do the same.  And what a joy it is to do this through the Arts!  We have been praying for the upcoming school year, and know God has great things in store for each of our classes, groups, lessons, activities, events, and performances.  And through all of these, we believe He is drawing us closer to Him!  Please join us in prayer for God’s best and for His blessing in your students’ Arts journey at TCS.

Our mission statement in the Arts also involves the idea of “cultivating creativity.”  We have been planning and dreaming together as the Performing Arts staff, and couldn’t be more excited for what is in store this upcoming school year.  We look forward to seeing familiar student faces, and meeting new ones in the rehearsal rooms.  Thank you for your support as Performing Arts continues to thrive at Trinity!

INSTRUMENT REPAIR

We use Big Note Music for on site repair of many of our musical instruments.  If you have an instrument that needs repair as the school year begins, this may be a great option for you.  The process works with you filling out an online form, pre-paying for the repair, and then they come for a scheduled repair session right on our Trinity campus.  Your student wouldn’t be away from their instrument except when it’s on the repair table.  This convenient option has worked for us for a few years now.  Simply fill out the online form and let us know that a repair has been scheduled.

Choosing Electives

Each year students have the opportunity to choose Arts electives.  It’s not too late to do this!  Here are some things to know based on your school and grade:

PreSchool / Kindergarten - all students take Music & Drama one day per week.  This is part of the normal school schedule for all of these students.

1st through 3rd grade - all students take a general music class one day per week.  This is part of the normal school schedule for all of these students.

4th grade - students have the opportunity to choose Orchestra for the first time here.  Their other option is recorders.  All students are first introduced to group instrumental music in 4th grade.

5th grade - students choose one of three options for this year: Band, Orchestra or Chorus.  These classes meet two days per week.

Middle School & High School - students choose electives starting in 6th grade, with Band, Orchestra, Chorus and Drama being choices here.  Elective options increase with the higher grades.  Click here for more information on these options.

“Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.”

We think about themes when we lead our students throughout each school year.  We consider themes when planning concerts or seasons or events.  And we implement these themes as we teach, train and mentor our students through these particular journeys.  All of these themes center around the creativity that God has placed within each of us, which mirrors our mission statement for Performing Arts: “Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.

Themes are present throughout all of scripture, and include redemption, freedom, growth, joy, God’s covenant with us, and so many more!  As we come to the end of our school year, and launch into “next seasons” both on the calendar and in life, we ask you to consider God’s theme for you.  His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness!  He has given you everything you need to accomplish His will for your life, and to use the creativity within you to glorify His Son!

Students, you are valuable in God’s kingdom.  The gifts He has placed within you are amazing, and you are displaying those throughout these end of year concerts and performances.  And adults, you are valuable too!  You and I have the privilege to mentor young lives, to impart within each of the students so many themes of life and godliness.

I am so blessed to be able to oversee so many amazing people in our Arts Department.  God is doing amazing things in and through us, and I can’t wait to see how His plan continues to unfold.  Many thanks to each of you, for your involvement, support, and prayers.  Here’s to great themes ahead, to amazing musical adventures together, and for God to be the center of it all!

Fine Arts Festival

Trinity Fine Arts motto is “Empowering young artists to creatively express God’s truth to their generation”.  We believe that during the 2023/24 season, that 60 students did just that. Many categories were offered to the 6th to 12th grade students of Trinity Church and School. Gospel Choir, Dance, Drama, Worship Team, Puppetry, Instrumental, Short Sermons, Visual Art, Photography, Creative Writing, to name a few.

The season began with rehearsals in preparation for 3 events. The first was the District Fine Arts Festival in March, held right here on our campus. Numerous students from around the state came and presented with their teams at the two day event.  Our team entered 72 entries at the festival.  63 of those 72 were awarded a superior with invitation, which allows them to advance to the National competition in Columbus, Ohio in August. 32 of those 63 placed in the top 3.  20 of those 32 earned merit, first place. Trinity Choir won merit, along with Worship Team, Drama Team large, Percussion Instrumental, Puppetry and many more. In addition, Keira Moore was awarded an $18,000 per year scholarship to Evangel University. The Festival also looks at students' educational futures and encourages them to continue to grow in their talents.

The second event were concerts that allowed the students to deploy their creative gifts and share their testimonies. The team served in Americus, GA at Living Word Church.  This was a great experience for the students as they traveled together, had times of fellowship and set up and tear down responsibilities. The team also ended with a concert right here on campus, and had the opportunity to sing in Trinity Church services also.

Our third event is yet to come!  Nationals bound in August 30 students will travel to Columbus, Ohio and participate, share their gifts, and receive feedback. The students will also attend a National Youth Convention packed with worship and speakers, along with approximately 10,000 students from around the United States. Please continue to watch for those results this fall.

If you have a student that is rising 6th to 12th grade, please mark your calendar for Sunday, September 8 for our launch meeting here on campus. There are plenty of opportunities for students to be creative artists!  You may also contact Stacie Moore at stacie.moore@tcslions.org if you need more information.

“Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.”

A Note from the Director

 Music Really Does It All!!

Recently I had the opportunity to teach our rising 9th grade students and families about left brain and right brain function, and how music and creativity is one of the only areas where we actually use both sides of the brain simultaneously.  This process equips the maturing student to excel in not just the Arts, but in all aspects of life.  Being involved in the Arts throughout your student’s career at Trinity prepares them to achieve higher levels of success, no matter what they choose to pursue upon graduation.  This quote sums it up nicely: “Music educates us holistically. It educates us musically. It educates us socially. It educates us emotionally. It educates us spiritually. It educates us academically. It educates us physically. It educates us individually. It educates us collectively. Music really does it all.Vaughan Fleischfresser

Tim Hurt - Performing Arts Director
