6th GRADE HONOR BAND

Three members of the Trinity Christian 6th Grade Band were selected to perform with the Fayette County 6th Grade Honor Band on Saturday, May 21. After 4 hours of rehearsal, the students performed a great concert for their family and friends. Congratulations to these outstanding students. Pictured Left to Right: Samuel Leyimu, Kaleb Simmons and Isabelle Chammami.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

We are at the end of the school year, and it’s a great time to reflect on all that has happened in the Arts at Trinity.  We are continually making progress and seeing new opportunities for our students to thrive in the Arts, and your support and participation are what make it as great as it is!  Thank you so much for partnering with us as we promote creative ways for our students to get involved.  We are all better for it!

Here is a look at some things that were new to Trinity with the 2021-22 school year…

Color Guard - In the Fall we began our very first Color Guard led by Mrs. Kim Pinkerton.  Special thanks to you, Mrs. Kim!  Seven students picked up flags for the very first time, and the color and visuals they added were a huge upgrade!  Well done, Ladies!

Pep Band - We also added a wind section to our Marching Band with these six students creating the first layer of winds and melody that will grow for years to come.  With this addition, we now have Color Guard, Drum Corps and Pep Band - together they make the newly formed “Trinity Marching Lions!”

MS Musical - This year we had our inaugural Middle School-only musical, Into the Woods, JR. and the creation of our Middle School MANEstage Productions.  This will be an annual tradition with our Middle School students having a production to own themselves.  Thank you so much, Mrs. Emily Litton for your tireless efforts here, and for promoting Theatre fully within the Middle School.  This is so exciting for these young actors and technicians.

Drum Club - We also started a new group in the Spring semester used to promote interest with our younger percussionists.  This group was made up of 5th grade and Middle School students, and they explored a variety of percussion instruments and methods.  It was so much fun!  Special thanks to Dr. Kathy Brown!

Staffing - We welcomed onto our team a few stellar staff members in part time or full time roles.  Mrs. Kaela Lawrence helped with several shows as our choreographer, Mr. Dale Zarlenga helped with several shows as our choral director, and Mrs. Lizzie Perez directed the High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast.  Thank you so much for the excellence you brought this school year.

Two of these individuals will take on expanded roles in 2022-23.  Mrs. LIzzie has now become our Theatre Director of the entire Theatre Department.  We see amazing things to come as this department continues to grow and expand.  Mr. Dale will take on an additional role as our High School Chorus Director.  This will also bring energy and vision to these Choral students as they develop their talents.  Welcome to the team!

Mrs. Sharissa Manwaring has also increased her role as she is now our Orchestra Director.  With the retirement of Dr. Barbara Salter, Mrs. Manwaring has stepped up to the plate and we are already seeing results.  The students are motivated, learning is a constant, and retention of these students from grade to grade is happening!  Well done, Mrs. Manwaring!

As a final note, I want to say thank you for your prayers.  I have been impressed throughout this school year that we are not just creating good musicians in your students.  We are raising them up to be a light in the Arts world and in whatever calling God has for them.  It is so important that we keep our feet grounded on God’s Word and His promises.  It is vital that we put our faith in the only One who is faithful.  It is imperative that we walk in the freedom Christ came to purchase for us all, redeeming us from sin and giving us liberty to worship the God of all the Universe.  He is the Master Creator, and we want Him to receive all the glory as we rehearse and perform!

Color Guard - 3:30-5:00pm - Gym

You don’t need to bring anything with you / you could change into PE type clothes if you like or just stay in school attire / you will be learning basic skills and fundamentals you can work on over the summer / you will begin learning some of our routines / we will measure for uniforms.

Pep Band (Winds) & Rhythm Band (Drum Set, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, Keys) - 3:45pm Monday OR Tuesday - Band Room

You will receive your music for the summer and some basic information you will need for camp / your portion should not take long, 30 minutes max / we will measure for uniforms / please let us know which day you will be coming.

Drum Corps - 3:45-5:45pm - Band Room

We will rehearse audition materials together on Wednesday and Thursday / You will sign up for a time on Friday to audition on the drum of your choice / multiple instrument auditions are allowed for any student / we will measure for uniforms. SOUTHERN STAR BAND FESTIVAL

This past Friday, March 25th, our 7th & 8th Grade Band and our High School Chamber Group both performed at the Southern Star Band Festival at Six Flags, Atlanta.  The students received encouraging feedback as well as critique that will help them perform at higher and higher levels.  The experience was certainly educational and enlightening to each of these students.

Then on Saturday we went to Six Flags for a day of fun together and the closing ceremony of the festival that evening.  We had so much fun at the park and then celebrating a job well done!  It’s great to take trips again as a band, and we look forward to more of these in the future, for sure.

FINE ARTS FESTIVAL - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

TCS Family! Trinity is excited to once again be the host church for the 2022 District Fine Arts Festival April 8-9!  In order for this to be a success, we would like to invite you to volunteer one or both of these days to help greet, serve/sell food, or grill for our fundraiser lunch. If you would like to be a part of this fun event, please sign up here:

https://trichurch.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/196/responses/new

You may also sign up on the Trinity church website, tri-church.com. If you are planning on volunteering that weekend, we will be hosting a Volunteer Training Lunch immediately following the morning service at Trinity Church on Sunday, March 27 at 12:00 in the Gathering Place (elementary lunchroom). This is where we will be sharing with you some important information about how our church family can effectively host churches and students from all over the state.

We are looking forward to a fantastic Fine Arts Festival!

DRUM CLUB

Last week concluded our TCS Drum Club.  This group consisted of 5th through 9th graders, and was SO MUCH FUN!  The students learned about different drumming genres from bucket ensembles, to ancient African drumming circles, to contemporary ensemble drumming.  We concluded with a parent performance, where all of the parents were participants.  Parents, we hope your chopsticks were as much for you as our drums were to us.  Special thanks to Dr. Kathy Brown!  Here’s to a bright future for TCS drumming, and continuing to build the Arts at Trinity!  Go Lions!

SOUTHERN STAR BAND FESTIVAL

On Friday, March 25th, our 7th & 8th Grade Band and our High School Chamber Group both performed at the Southern Star Band Festival at Six Flags, Atlanta.

Southern Star Band Festival - Google Form

Southern Star - This is a Band Festival we plan to participate in at Six Flags, Atlanta. We would go on that Friday and perform before judges. We would also get a mini-clinic with our band right there on stage. Then, on Saturday, we would all enjoy the park that day until the evening. Saturday evening there is a closing ceremony for all bands involved, we would all attend this together. Students would also have another one day pass to Six Flags to use any time throughout the year. If you have a season pass already, this can be factored into the cost as savings to you. There will be a cost for this trip, somewhere around $100 per student. Chaperone opportunities are available too. This is our major trip for the Spring Semester. We would like 100% of the group to go as we arrange our pieces with each of you in mind.

Fine Arts - Google Form

This is a competition that is held in our District (state of Georgia) and then qualified entries are invited to Nationals in Orlando, FL. There are many solo and group opportunities for instrumentalists. All Festival information is included in the following form. This is an INTEREST FORM only, formal registration for the Festival will come closer to the event once we have our individual and group entries all formed.

Solo & Ensemble Band Festival - Paper Form (pdf)

This is a great opportunity for solos and ensembles to get critique from qualified judges.  This feedback is so helpful as each student and group advances in their skill.  We encourage students to do this, and it is a loose format, so they can play their song of choice, as long as it’s approved by the Band Director.  We have had soloists, duets, small and large ensembles all participate in the past.

Please turn this form in to Mr. Hurt, Mr. Melton, or Mrs. Manwaring with payment by FEBRUARY 1, 2022.
