Tim Hurt - Performing Arts Director

“Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.”

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Music brings out a multitude of emotions.  Throughout our concert season we pray you will experience joy, wonder, peace, maybe some dissonance, and resolution by the end of each song.  Throughout each grade and each performance, we strive to show the progression of the musician, from our little Lions as beginner instrumentalists and vocalists, to the older grades and several years of experience under our belts.  Through it all, we hope to show the passion of our students for the Arts as this comes alive in each of our programs.

Christmas brings out a multitude of emotions as well.  Some of these are exactly the same: joy, wonder, peace, maybe some dissonance, and hopefully resolution as we navigate the season together.  We are a family at Trinity, and we love to take this journey with each of your students.  And also with you, our parents and faculty!  It is such an honor for us to have a like-minded faith as we do this.  It is a blessing to have freedom to proclaim Christ.  And it is amazing to see God at work openly in each of your students.  We are praying for each of you, for our Trinity community, that we will experience God’s Presence in amazing ways this holiday season, and be a vessel to show His love to a hurting world in the process.  May God bless you richly!  Emmanuel, God is with us!!

ARTS ACADEMY UPDATES

OPEN POSITION: PIANO

We are growing in the Arts Academy.  And with growth comes new instructors.  This is so exciting!  We are in search of a piano instructor who can teach during the school day several days each week.  This person will need a solid Christian testimony and skills to teach piano methods through a classical approach.  Interested candidates should reach out to Tim Hurt at tim.hurt@tcslions.org for next steps.  Thanks for helping us spread the word here.

NEW INSTRUCTORS

We would like to welcome two new instructors to our staff.  We are so excited to introduce:

Nien-hwa Chin - Cello, Piano - nzc102@gmail.com

Nien-hwa Chin is a concert cellist and a pianist.  She holds bachelor’s degrees in piano and cello performances from Taiwan and graduate degrees in cello performance and music education from Penn State.  She was under the tutelage of Professors Kim Cook, Martha Gerschefski, and Eugene Osadchy.  She also took master classes with Yo-Yo Ma, David Finckel, Anne Williams and Oxana Yablonskaya.

In addition to constant performances in both solo and ensemble settings, Ms. Chin has taught in K-12 public/private schools, universities and her own music studio.  She also served as the music director of contemporary services at US Air Force chapel in Tokyo while stationed in Japan.

Ms. Chin and her family relocated back to Peachtree City in the summer of 2024 after 10 years of living overseas.  She enjoys traveling, reading, dancing and cooking with her two teenage children, Joshua and Elspeth.

Frank van der Merwe - Guitar, Drum Set, Bass Guitar, Rock Vocals - fvdm92@gmail.com

Frank van der Merwe grew up in a family that loved music, so he was, of course, drawn to the same love at an early age.  He started his musical journey by learning a chord on his father’s guitar and after that he couldn’t put it down!

Growing up and living in Australia, Frank moved to the US in 2018.  He has played many different styles and experienced countless venues and genres.  He has played on worship teams, with road bands, and in recording studios.  When Frank isn’t teaching, he is recording and producing his own music in his home studio.

Frank has always found himself surrounded by music whether it’s performing, writing, producing, or teaching.  He is excited to make a difference by sharing his passion with students in our community.

“Music is a gift from God.  There are songs of praise being sung right this moment!”

All Things Theatre

ONE ACT

CONGRATS TO THE CAST AND CREW OF THE LION, THE WITCH, and THE WARDROBE for a great day at State Competition on Saturday, Nov. 16th! They competed for the first time in TCS history at the State Level and placed 5th with their incredible show! Stephen Nussbaum (Mr. Beaver) was named All Star Cast member alongside Riley Cook, Isabelle Johnson, and MJ Poling (The White Witch). We also had two All Star Crew members, CHLOE COOK, our Stage Manager and TJ Timpson on lights!

If you missed this show, there are TWO more chances to see it on DECEMBER 15th at First Baptist Peachtree City, during their 9:30am and 11am services! We are so proud of these students and the ways they are using this show to share the gospel through the arts!

INSTRUMENT REPAIR

We use Big Note Music for on site repair of many of our musical instruments.  If you have an instrument that needs repair as the school year begins, this may be a great option for you.  The process works with you filling out an online form, pre-paying for the repair, and then they come for a scheduled repair session right on our Trinity campus.  Your student wouldn’t be away from their instrument except when it’s on the repair table.  This convenient option has worked for us for a few years now.  Simply fill out the online form and let us know that a repair has been scheduled.
