“Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.”

We think about themes when we lead our students throughout each school year.  We consider themes when planning concerts or seasons or events.  And we implement these themes as we teach, train and mentor our students through these particular journeys.  All of these themes center around the creativity that God has placed within each of us, which mirrors our mission statement for Performing Arts: “Bearing the image of the Creator as we cultivate creativity.

Themes are present throughout all of scripture, and include redemption, freedom, growth, joy, God’s covenant with us, and so many more!  As we come to the end of our school year, and launch into “next seasons” both on the calendar and in life, we ask you to consider God’s theme for you.  His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness!  He has given you everything you need to accomplish His will for your life, and to use the creativity within you to glorify His Son!

Students, you are valuable in God’s kingdom.  The gifts He has placed within you are amazing, and you are displaying those throughout these end of year concerts and performances.  And adults, you are valuable too!  You and I have the privilege to mentor young lives, to impart within each of the students so many themes of life and godliness.

I am so blessed to be able to oversee so many amazing people in our Arts Department.  God is doing amazing things in and through us, and I can’t wait to see how His plan continues to unfold.  Many thanks to each of you, for your involvement, support, and prayers.  Here’s to great themes ahead, to amazing musical adventures together, and for God to be the center of it all!

Colossians 3:23-24

Fine Arts Festival

Trinity Fine Arts motto is “Empowering young artists to creatively express God’s truth to their generation”.  We believe that during the 2023/24 season, that 60 students did just that. Many categories were offered to the 6th to 12th grade students of Trinity Church and School. Gospel Choir, Dance, Drama, Worship Team, Puppetry, Instrumental, Short Sermons, Visual Art, Photography, Creative Writing, to name a few.

The season began with rehearsals in preparation for 3 events. The first was the District Fine Arts Festival in March, held right here on our campus. Numerous students from around the state came and presented with their teams at the two day event.  Our team entered 72 entries at the festival.  63 of those 72 were awarded a superior with invitation, which allows them to advance to the National competition in Columbus, Ohio in August. 32 of those 63 placed in the top 3.  20 of those 32 earned merit, first place. Trinity Choir won merit, along with Worship Team, Drama Team large, Percussion Instrumental, Puppetry and many more. In addition, Keira Moore was awarded an $18,000 per year scholarship to Evangel University. The Festival also looks at students' educational futures and encourages them to continue to grow in their talents.

The second event were concerts that allowed the students to deploy their creative gifts and share their testimonies. The team served in Americus, GA at Living Word Church.  This was a great experience for the students as they traveled together, had times of fellowship and set up and tear down responsibilities. The team also ended with a concert right here on campus, and had the opportunity to sing in Trinity Church services also.

Our third event is yet to come!  Nationals bound in August 30 students will travel to Columbus, Ohio and participate, share their gifts, and receive feedback. The students will also attend a National Youth Convention packed with worship and speakers, along with approximately 10,000 students from around the United States. Please continue to watch for those results this fall.

If you have a student that is rising 6th to 12th grade, please mark your calendar for Sunday, September 8 for our launch meeting here on campus. There are plenty of opportunities for students to be creative artists!  You may also contact Stacie Moore at stacie.moore@tcslions.org if you need more information.

A Note from the Director

 Music Really Does It All!!

Recently I had the opportunity to teach our rising 9th grade students and families about left brain and right brain function, and how music and creativity is one of the only areas where we actually use both sides of the brain simultaneously.  This process equips the maturing student to excel in not just the Arts, but in all aspects of life.  Being involved in the Arts throughout your student’s career at Trinity prepares them to achieve higher levels of success, no matter what they choose to pursue upon graduation.  This quote sums it up nicely: “Music educates us holistically. It educates us musically. It educates us socially. It educates us emotionally. It educates us spiritually. It educates us academically. It educates us physically. It educates us individually. It educates us collectively. Music really does it all.Vaughan Fleischfresser

Piano is the ultimate instrument in terms of skill and demand: Two hands have to play together simultaneously while navigating 88 keys. They can play up to 10 notes at a time. To manage all those options, pianists have to develop a totally unique brain capacity — one that has been revealed by science.

Because both hands are required to be equally active for pianists to master their instrument, they have to overcome something innate to almost every person: right or left-handedness.

In most people, the depth of the brain's central sulcus is either deeper on the right or on the left side, which then determines which hand is dominant. But when scientists scanned the brains of pianists, they found something different: Pianists had a demonstrably more symmetrical central sulcus than everyone else — though they were born right or left-handed, their brains barely registered it. Because the pianists still had a dominant hand, researchers speculated that their equal depth was not natural, but resulted because pianists are able to strengthen their weaker side to more closely match their dominant side.

So pianists’ brains actually are different. They are masters of creative, purposeful and efficient communication because of the very instrument that they play. They are the naturally efficient multi-taskers of the musical world.”

WINTER CLASSICS CONCERT

ALL THINGS THEATRE

THE MAGIC OF MARY POPPINS

The Roaring Dramatics and its 75 student filled cast and crew shared this incredible show with our community this past weekend, and to say it was a hit is an understatement. The magic of this show extends beyond the love of a "practically perfect" nanny and the games she takes the Banks children on, and through the joy from each student on and off stage as they share their God given gifts! After six packed out performances, this show has left an impact on us all, as we consider what it would look like to step back and look at our problems from a different perspective.

Like many of the characters in this show, we tend to see the problems of life right in front of us and it totally fogs up the true perspective of our lives, that we were created, made in the image of God, to have relationship with Him, and only because of our own sin we are separated. The higher view is this: that God being so good and so loving sent His Son for us to live a PERFECT life, die, and rise again, forever conquering sin and death and bringing us into relationship with the Father.

Wherever you are with the Lord right now, this show offers a unique perspective on the goodness of God, that even when life is upside down, there is a God who loves us and is calling us to Him. Only then, “when we learn to look past what we see,” are we able to feed the birds and help those around us. That’s when we see the ways the Lord has put people into our life to step in, right on time. Only then can we truly believe that anything can happen.

Congrats on an incredible run to our Theatre Department and the Roaring Dramatics!

DRAMA CLUB

Drama Club is full and we are so excited to start rehearsals for The Lion King Jr!

We know there are so many families that were excited to sign up for Drama Club that were unable to! If you would like to be added to a communication list to find out more info on how to get involved in future productions or Theatre at TCS, please email lizzie.perez@tcslions.org.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL AUDITIONS

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?!

Auditions for our upcoming Spring Musical The SpongeBob Musical will be the week of February 12th - 16th.

Featuring the known characters from the cartoon, this story is a family friendly look at what it means to be a hero. When Bikini Bottom is threatened to be destroyed by an erupting volcano, SpongeBob sets out on an adventure to save his home and friends, even though everyone thinks he is, "just a simple sponge." Tackling issues of showing kindness to our neighbor, fighting for what's right, and standing strong even in the face of adversity are small themes in which the characters in Bikini Bottom grow together!

This show is open to 6th - 12th grades with rehearsals after school and performances the first weekend of May!

To prepare for auditions, please choose one minute of a musical theatre or pop song to sing with a karaoke track. You will also dance and read from the script at auditions.

Some roles are pre-cast for our Senior class, but these will be made public soon!

If you have any questions, please email lizzie.perez@tcslions.org.

  • Literary pieces

We hope to see you there!

Marching Lions - Exciting News

Introducing…Katie Palmer, our new Director of the Marching Lions.  This program has grown over the last five years, from not having any music in the stands on Friday nights in the Fall to having a full marching band exciting the crowd and cheering our team on to victory!  We started with just a Drum Corps, then grew to add Winds and Color Guard, and two years ago began marching field formations for the first time.  We have enjoyed halftime shows, pep rallies, local festivals with other schools, parades and more.

Last season we brought on Katie as an assistant to lead our winds, instruct our new drum major, and help teach drill.  She stepped up to the plate, and her expertise was invaluable toward our end result of a successful Back to the Future show, and growth in this group as a whole.  Next season she will be taking on more, and using her experience and expertise to take us to even higher levels.  Here are a few sentiments from Katie, please welcome her as our new Marching Lions Director!!

"Outside of being a mom to 5 children and wife to my husband Patrick, my greatest passion is teaching, training, and equipping people and students to use their gifts to honor the Lord. I am humbled and excited to come alongside and lead the Marching Lions!"

"I’ve been given the chance to do some of the things that I love; music and speaking into the lives of students!  We will encourage them, disciple them, and develop them to lead others as well. Hard work, dedication, discipline, and skill goes into developing a “Band of Excellence” but we’ll have lots of fun working together and make life-long friends along the way. Ultimately our GREATEST PURPOSE is for Jesus to be at the center of it all! I can’t wait for what the new season holds for us!" Colossians 3:23-24

MUSIC ARTS ACADEMY

Arts Academy 2023-24 Updates

2023-24 Report

We are off to a great start in the Arts Academy, and it is so exciting to see all of our students thriving in private lessons.  We have increased our instructor base to total 15 instructors, new instruments are now being offered, and lessons are happening all over campus.  Last year we taught a total of 2,270 lessons with 136 active students.  This year we are looking to break that by quite a bit.  We have five rooms with acoustic pianos available, and a handful of other areas as well to teach.  Recently I needed a rehearsal room and had to walk to the other side of campus to find one because all of our rooms were in use through the Academy.  This is so exciting!

Lesson Cost - 2024 Increase

Starting this month, January of 2024, all 30 minute lessons will be $35 per lesson.  This pricing is in line with the industry and teachers throughout our area, and reflects inflation but also the value of our instructors.  Please be aware of this increase, your instructors should be putting this into effect this month.

Website & Growth

You are our greatest source of advertisement for the Academy.  Please share the great things that are happening with your student and their progress.  We are constantly taking on new students, please help us by encouraging other families to get involved.  We also take non-TCS students after school, we want to offer what we have to the community as a whole.  We are also interested in new instructors.  If you know of an instructor interested in getting involved, we would be glad to speak with them and see if it’s a good fit.  Feel free to direct them to the website: https://tcslions.org/arts-academy.
