A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

We are only days away from our 1st break of the school year! Just a reminder that Friday, September 2 is a Remote Learning Day, meaning that while we are off campus that day, there will still be an expectation of school work being completed. Please review the Remote Learning Information section below to learn more about what assignments will be expected and when those assignments will be due. We hope each of our families has a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

HOW ARE WE DOING?

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson concluded our 3-part series on the culture we desire within the TCS middle school, by teaching on the Golden Rule from Matthew 7:12 and the expectation we have for a culture of kindness amongst our student body. Reminding our students that God treats us good, Mr. Vinson showed how we can be motivated to show the same goodness to others, even if they fail to return that same treatment back. Students were reminded to show kindness to their friends, to new students, and even to their enemies!

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

We are settling into the new year on campus and hope you are as a family too. The LORD has already been so good to us, and we can’t wait to see what all He has in store next. Now that we are past the first two weeks of school, please take some time to evaluate if there is anything we can do to help serve you better. Perhaps you are a new family who still has questions as you figure TCS out. Or maybe you are a veteran TCS parent but the transition to Upper Elementary or Middle School has left you with more questions than answers. Don’t hesitate to reach out to let me know if I can help in any way.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson explained to our students the desire we have at TCS to instill within each of them a biblical worldview. We discussed how the Bible is meant to serve as a guiding lamp to us (Ps. 119:104-105) as it shapes us to see and understand the world through the truths of God’s Word. The following truths were emphasized to help the students remember what Christians believe to be true of our world.

  1. God created everything

  2. Man ruined everything

  3. God still controls everything

  4. Jesus fixes everything

  5. The Bible tells us everything

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson reminded our students of the call towards excellence given in I Cor. 10:31 for us to do everything this school for the glory of God. Using the story of Jesus turning water into wine in John 2, Mr. Vinson helped our students see that just as the servants filled their water jars to the brim, we too need to approach every task, including how we eat and drink, with a desire to do it with excellence for God’s glory. Use this lesson to encourage your child even at home to “fill it to the brim” in all they do!

LIONS OF THE WEEK

Starting next week we will be honoring a different student from each grade level for their hard work, exceptional performance or Christ-like example.

NEW INFORMATION IN THIS ISSUE:

Are You Receiving Blackbaud Communication?

While the bulk of the information related to upper elementary will come to you through the Inside the Pride newsletter, there is time-sensitive and more child-specific information that will need to be sent to you via Blackbaud throughout the year. While this information can always be viewed within Blackbaud, it is also helpful if you have properly set up your notification settings so that you receive email prompts about the communication in case you aren’t logging in to Blackbaud every day. Go ahead and double check your Blackbaud settings to make sure you have your notifications set to serve your needs best.

Advanced Class Placement Communication

Students who qualified for advanced classes were notified by email on Thursday, July 14. If you received a notification from your child’s Academic Coordinator, please be sure to let us know if you wish to decline the advanced placement by Monday, July 18. This will help us great as we move forward in the scheduling process for all of our students.

Last Call: Class Selection Forms

Do you still need to submit your child’s Specials preferences? This week is your last chance to get these requests in as we begin finalizing student schedules.

New Teachers Coming Aboard

Next week we are going to kick off our introductions to new teachers. I’m so excited about the new faculty and staff joining our middle school this year and look forward to introducing you to each of them.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

We have an exciting last week of school planned as we celebrate our students and all they have accomplished this year! Our teachers have lots of exciting activities planned as we close out the year. Let’s end the 21/22 school year with a bang!

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Vinson challenged our students from Joshua 24 with the question of “Who will you serve?”. As Joshua spoke to the children of Israel for the last time, he wanted to leave a lasting impact by reminding Israel that the one true God gives us every reason to follow Him. As we gathered together for the last time this year, students were reminded that summer is not a break from following God. We want our students to continue growing and maturing spiritually as they seek to follow Jesus throughout the summer months. May we all keep choosing to serve Him!

A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE CLASSROOM

We are in the home stretch now! Check out what’s been happening in our upper elementary classrooms during the months of April and May:

Mrs. Stanfield’s class has been studying homophones. They made posters to help their classmates differentiate words like flour and flower, they’re, there, and their, and by, buy, and bye. They also created their own islands using map skills and wrote both an expository and persuasive paper.

Mrs. Goss’ class is wrapping up history with some fun biography reports. Mrs. Goss spent a lot of time videoing and editing. We can’t wait to see the final products!

Miss Dale’s class won a cozy day for beating the teacher in “Teacher vs. Students”! They also played some fun review games outside.

Mrs. Burnett’s class celebrated Easter by having a fun reading comprehension egg hunt!

Both 4th and 5th grades were able to take some fun field trips to Six Flags! We are so grateful to our teachers, administrators, and parent chaperones who make all of this possible.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Mr. Lassiter (7th grade history teacher) spoke to our students on our call to worship God above everything else and how Jesus makes that possible. Speaking from I Samuel 4-6, Mr. Lassiter helped us see that we are not to use God but to serve Him, unlike the children of Israel who sought to use the Ark of the Covenant as a weapon against the Philistines. In showing us how the God of Israel was superior to Dagon, god of Philistia, we were reminded that God alone is the true hope of our life.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

The countdown is on for summer break! Only 5 weeks of school remaining! Be sure to challenge your child to keep working hard and doing their very best in the coming weeks. It will be tempting for students to start thinking of beach trips, pool days and adventures at the lake. The next 5 weeks are super important though when it comes to transitioning them to the next grade level. Make it a priority to encourage your son or daughter to finish out the school year strong!

HOW ARE WE DOING?

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Coach Holly Savoy spoke to our students on how to overcome spiritual mountains and obstacles in our lives by utilizing prayer, Bible study, worship/thankfulness, and Christian community. Using her experience as a teenager on the Nickelodeon TV show “Guts”, Coach Holly helped our students to see that by following God’s path, we can overcome any mountain in our life. Ask your child about the TV clips they were able to view of Coach Holly as she took 1st place by conquering the MegaCrag and winning the Guts competition!

PREPARING FOR IOWA STANDARDIZED TESTING

Our upcoming IOWA testing will take place the week of May 2. How can you help your child prepare to do their very best? Utilize the suggested tips below to make IOWA week an accurate reflection of your child’s learning and ability.

  1. Make sure your child gets plenty of REST. With no homework or regular assessments being given, strive to have your child in bed early if possible while trying to reduce the events and activities your family will be required to attend.

  2. EAT a good breakfast each day. Sleep + food will help your child think clearly and focus. Good proteins and high fiber foods will help keep your child alert and will reduce the chances of them getting hungry during the test.

  3. ENCOURAGE your child to do their very best. The IOWA tests are one piece of the overall assessment approach taken at TCS. Don’t overemphasize the importance of these testing results. IOWA is meant to show us how your child is growing and learning. The goal is for them to simply do their best.

  4. Prioritize PUNCTUALITY when it comes to arriving at school on time. When students feel rushed, they often feel stressed and aren’t able to do their best. By being on time, you help ensure your child hears all of the instructions for the test which creates a more relaxing testing environment.

  5. Be ACTIVE after school. While students will still engage in physical activity at school during IOWA testing week, the more energy your child can exert the better. Plan some afternoon outdoor activities for your family to help facilitate a more focused testing time for your child.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. VINSON

I hope each of you had a wonderful Easter Sunday celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! As I Corinthians 15:19 says, no matter how wonderful our life may be, if this life is our greatest hope as Christians, we ought to be pitied. But this life is not our greatest hope! May the truth of Christ’s resurrection and the assured hope of His return continue to sustain both you and your family as you seek to follow Him!

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

Using the house motto of the Elliot House (Be Ready to Forgive and Love Your Enemies), Mr. Veal (6th grade History teacher) spoke to our students from Matthew 18:21-35 on the importance of forgiveness. As Elisabeth Elliot was willing to forgive those who murdered her husband, we too must strive to forgive our enemies as well. The story found in Matthew 18 about the unforgiving servant reminds us that if we do not show mercy and forgiveness to others, we should not expect that God will show those things to us either. May we all be thankful that God made the path to forgiveness for us by sending His Son Jesus to not die for us, but to live again as well!

Pastor BJ Cobb from First Baptist Senoia spoke to our students from Philippians 2 regarding both the “bigness” and “closeness” of God. The God of the universe rules and reigns and is certainly big enough to handle all of our needs, but He is also faithful to come close to us so that He is aware of the needs we have too. Thank you Pastor BJ for faithfully bringing this word of encouragement to our student body!

HOW ARE WE DOING?

Let me know how our team is doing in keeping you informed about your child’s education this year. If you are lacking communication regarding one of your child’s classes, please let me know so I can help! adam.vinson@tcslions.org.

LAST WEEK IN CHAPEL

We were blessed to have Pastor JC Worley from GO Church join us, and he spoke about the choices we make in our daily lives. Pastor JC reminded our students that our lives are shaped by our choices. He encouraged our students to make wise choices and to take every thought captive (II Cor. 10:5) using the acronym “PAUSE”. To make wise choices we should P-ray, A-sk for help, U-se our Bibles, S-ay the choice out loud, and E-xperience freedom once we have done so. Thank you Pastor JC for helping our students see the need for wisdom and counsel as they make decisions in a world full of temptations.

LIONS OF THE WEEK

APRIL MEMORY VERSES: JAMES 1:12-15

Help your child learn their memory verses over the course of this month.

Week of March 28

12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Week of April 11

13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Week of April 18

14  But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

Week of April 25

15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
