Alumni Spotlight: Benjamin Peacock

“Preparing Today’s Student to impact Tomorrow’s world”

Alumni Spotlight: Benjamin Peacock

By Samantha DePriest

As we approach the celebration of our 14th graduating class at Trinity Christian School, we pray God’s blessings over the 125 seniors who will walk across the stage and officially enter the mission field next month. From the very beginning, Trinity Christian School has been committed to “Preparing today’s student to impact tomorrow’s world.” Hundreds of students have developed a firm foundation in Christ and been mentored by Faith filled teachers as they planted seeds and watched them grow. There are countless stories to be shared about how our Trinity Lions are living out God’s plan for their lives and positively influencing those around them.

TCS Alumni Benjamin Peacock has been walking with the Lord for as long as he can remember. He graduated TCS in 2016 and fondly recalls his time at Trinity as some of the best years of his life. Benjamin shares, “I got to do so many incredible things during my time at TCS.” He was here during a time a great growth and was on the first TCS cross country team, track team, soccer team, and was the first TCS swimmer.

He fondly recalls his Dad encouraging him to try running. He shares that his Dad told him to go to 1 TCS cross country practice to see if he liked it. He did and realized that running came easy for him. His athletic ability, endurance, and mental fortitude helped him to not only run but he learned that he enjoyed running. He had hoped to run cross country or track and field in college but had health issues that prevented him from doing so. He was able to run a sub 18 minutes in his sophomore year but was diagnosed with Compartment syndrome and had to have surgery in his junior year. Because of these circumstances, he started swimming and found success in the pool.

Benjamin was also cast in the very 1st TCS musical “Annie”. He enjoyed his time being a part of Trinity musicals, sang in the Choir in 9th and 10th grades, and also in One Act with former Performing Arts Director Kelsi Adams. He learned that he loved competing in both athletics and the arts. He was involved in Trinity Church Fine Arts as well. In fact, he won the Fine Arts Scholarship which helped him earn $5k/yr for 4 years of college and was the first Merit Award earned from Trinity Church. He shares that he wasn’t sure what his next step would be after high school but decided to go to Southeastern University where one of his older brothers also attended.

Fast forward a few years, he now serves in ministry as a Youth Associate Pastor at Victory Church Lakeland in Florida. This coming May he is becoming an ordained minister. He also coaches and encourages young runners. The team started with just 22 students and has now grown to 50 students. Benjamin enjoys helping mentor athletes and shares that he “can’t imagine not having Faith when times are tough.” He can also be found announcing volleyball and basketball games and singing the national anthem at games. Benjamin describes himself as missional and kingdom building. He preaches at school, church, and youth services. In addition, he oversees the fine arts program currently with 55+ students and gives God all the glory!

Over the years, Benjamin has participated in half marathons, both Sprint and Olympic triathlons, Ironman’s and has even qualified for the World Championships in St. George, Utah. Every race that he competes in, he has raised money for causes close to his heart. He has raised money to build water wells in Africa and most recently is fundraising to support Project Rescue.

We will be praying for Benjamin as he competes in a Fine Arts Festival Competition coming up this month and in his 1st full Ironman in Mont-Tremblant Canada this summer. His goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon one day. We applaud his desire to positively impact the world by using the gifts and talents God gave him. Benjamin shares, “Everything that I am is because of Trinity. Everyone who is a part of my journey has taught me and poured into me . I was always loved, always seen, always known, always supported, always encouraged, and always having fun when I was at TCS.”

What a beautiful story of one of our very own Lions making a tremendous impact in the world and inspiring others along the way. We can’t wait to see what else the Lord has planned for Benjamin this year!! #LionForLife

She has also served as a Head Basketball Coach with experience and a history of growing student athletes. She is known for her love of students and creating an engaging environment as well as a culture of inclusion.

Lady Grooms attended University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Administration in 1993.  She was a 4-year starter for UGA and played internationally in France, Hungary, Italy and Turkey. She was also awarded Academic SEC All-Conference. After college, she was a first round pick in the inaugural WNBA draft and played for the Utah Starzz and Sacramento Monarchs. She served three years as an assistant coach for the WNBA’s New York Liberty team.

Most recently, Lady Grooms has served as the Head Coach for the Varsity Girls Basketball team as well as Middle and High School PE at Landmark Christian School.  Prior to her time there, she served in similar roles at Greater Atlanta Christian (GAC) and Arlington Christian School. Dr. Mark Anthony, Head of School said, “When Trinity Christian School is interviewing potential candidates, we want to identify if they are a cultural fit. To do that, we strive to discern if they possess the critical qualities that will allow them to be successful: Competency to effectively do the job, Character that models the Trinity Way, and Chemistry that allows them to function well within our team. In this hiring search, our team is convinced that Coach Grooms is going to thrive as a teacher, coach, and mentor.

I love Lady’s passion. First and foremost, she is a passionate follower of Jesus. Secondly, she has an unbelievable pedigree in basketball. Not only as a player, but as a coach too. I have observed her over the past 6 or 7 years and have been thoroughly impressed with her ability to develop individual talent while getting the most out of her team. Finally, Coach Lady Grooms is passionate about students. Her infectious smile will undoubtedly endear her to our student body. Trinity, we are excited and fortunate to add this wonderful person to our loving community!”

Who is Lady Grooms?

USC Coach Dawn Staley - “What a gem of a hire of Lady Hardmon for Trinity Christian and the young ladies she will immediately and forever impact. I’ve known Lady for over 3 decades and she is the epitome of loyalty, hard work and has been a dream merchant for young ladies long before she held a coaching position. I can’t wait to witness her success at Trinity Christian.

Former UGA Coach Andy Landers – “No one loves basketball more than Lady Grooms. Everything she does, she does it with excellence. Her love for kids has made her an outstanding coach and role model.”

GAC Athletic Director“She is a ‘culture builder.’ GAC students love her and are drawn to her. Coach Grooms always has a smile on her face and kids want to be with her when she walks in the room.”

TCS Football and Track Coach Roby Ross - “Coach Grooms and I previously taught middle school physical education classes together.  From a basketball coaching standpoint, I can recommend Coach Grooms without reservation. Her interaction with the young ladies was a great combination of building relationships while still maintaining order and accountability.  During games, her teams were always prepared and consistently displayed a great level of competitive execution regardless of the opponent. I believe Coach Grooms will be a tremendous asset.”

TCS Bible Teacher Ron Edwards - “It has been my honor to know Lady Grooms for over 12 years. I have known her as a friend, as a colleague, as a growing Christian who continued to understand how her Jesus story should shape her coaching, and in the context of a fellow coach for 4 years. She has been a hard worker, an excellent player developer, and a lifelong friend to girls long since graduated. She has inspired, challenged, and led girls not just to state championships but to become world class wives and mothers.”

Honoring Nolan Thompson

Honoring Nolan Thompson

By Samantha DePriest

Nolan Thompson, 10th grade TCS student

Last week our Trinity family suffered a great loss. Tenth grade student Nolan Thompson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, March 21st , 2023. At just 16 years old, his passing was both unexpected and tragic. We share in grief along with Nolan’s precious parents Debbie and Billy Thompson and big brother Ty, Trinity Alumni/Class of 2022.

Ty, Billy, Debbie, and Nolan Thompson

Just hours after learning of the Nolan’s passing, our high school students and staff gathered together in our stadium. Our Head of School Dr. Anthony shared scripture and led in a time of prayer lifting up the Thompson family. All afternoon classes were cancelled and our high school Bible teachers and counselors were available for students. Over 500+ high school students sat together shoulder to shoulder motionless in the stands with eyes filled with tears and hearts broken. No one moved. Every single Trinity student remained and the evidence of the Holy Spirit was present and overwhelming. Prayer groups began to form and worship music started to play. Tears fell and hugs were shared by students and staff. It was during those sweet and somber moments when God began to comfort His children. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our students and staff grieved together, loved on one another, and praised God for Nolan’s salvation. God’s peace fell upon us that day as we witnessed His goodness on the darkest day.

Last Thursday March 23rd, Dr. Anthony led a special High School Chapel service to honor Nolan’s life. Nolan’s cousin Brett Rogers shared about his cousin’s life. He shared scripture from Proverbs 16:9 “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” and asked fellow students to reflect on how they spend their time on earth. He encouraged classmates to live for God, tell their Moms they love them, apologize for any wrongs, don’t go to bed angry, and glorify God every day in their own lives. High school principal Kimmy Jones shares, “Brett spoke such powerful words of Faith and trust in God in the midst of such pain and loss”.

Following Dr. Anthony’s message, a powerful time of surrender and prayer began. Students, teachers, and administrators joined together gathered at the altar and an impactful time of praise began when the student led worship team began to play. The Thompson family has been and continues to be on the hearts and minds of our entire school community.

TCS Chapel Service Honoring Nolan Thompson

On Monday March 27th, Dr. Anthony led Nolan’s Celebration of Life at Passion City Church at Trilith. He referred to Psalm 77 in his comforting message, “This Psalm gives us permission to ask God tough questions, permission to cry and groan in our obvious pain. In Psalm 77:7-9 the Bible says ‘Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?Do you have questions for God today? I do. Sometimes we are told that we cannot ask God questions - like He may be intimidated or disturbed by our inquiry. But that is not scriptural. First of all, God knows what we are thinking. Secondly, it is in the middle of our openness and honesty with God that God can truly reach us and bring healing.

After these questions there is a pause in the text. Then the psalmist begins to praise God for His faithfulness in the past. I think we will experience some of that today… yes, there will be moments of lament, pain, and tears, but there will also be hope and expressions of joy as we remember a life that was well lived.”

Nolan Thompson was a kind young man whom fellow students and staff enjoyed spending time with. He described himself as “quiet, funny, and gamer” in a first day of school questionnaire. He loved Math, sour Skittles, and his favorite worship song was 10,000 Reasons. He had a strong foundation of Faith and wasn’t afraid to share it as you can read his own words in bold below.

Our high school Bible department shared an excerpt from Nolan’s journal that he wrote earlier this school year, “When God entered my life, my whole life changed. God saved me and set me free, He allows me to live a love filled life. God made me a better person. He allowed me to be cleansed of my sins. God means everything to me. He is the word and the light. God should be in everyone’s life, and he should mean a lot to you like he does to me.”

In Health class, the class was recently studying mental health and emotions, part of an assignment was to describe the last time they felt loved. Nolan’s answer: “I feel loved all the time because I know that my parents love me. I know that my friends and family love me. I think that everyone should always have the feeling of love. Everyone needs those people in their life who care for them.”

The teacher explained: “He was wise beyond his years, and so disciplined in his faith. There is no question that Nolan loved the Lord, because he was a walking, talking testimony.” The last part of that health assignment posed the question, “Sadness and anger are usually associated with negativity. Why do you think God allows us to feel these emotions?” His answer: God allows us to feel these emotions so that we can be brought closer to him. If we only had happiness and joy we would never think of God in the way we do now.”

Dr. Anthony shared, “We are clinging to these words as we are grieving, and amazed in the way that celebrating Nolan’s life has brought our community closer together and closer to God.”

Nolan’s biology teacher shared, “He was in my 7th period and his positive demeanor and sense of humor was always on full display as that class could go either way. His respect for me and his classmates always shone through. He left his personality on everything we did in biology, especially during dissections. His huge smile radiated through the room every day.”

Nolan’s Spanish teacher shared, “I’ve been blessed to have Nolan in my Spanish classes for two years now. He’s always been somewhat quiet and reserved but I’ll never forget anytime I called on Nolan to read or to answer a question he always gave me the biggest smile and nodded his head, while not having a clue of what to say in Spanish, he always tried. Towards the middle of the semester his 9th grade year, I could see that he became more comfortable in class and seemed to always have a smile no matter what. His calm demeanor and playfulness with his classmates made our class a fun learning environment.”

Another Trinity teacher shared, “Nolan and his quiet Spirit were a bright spot of my 4th period this year.  In the Fall we rearranged seats and Nolan landed in the seat right by my desk.  He liked this spot.  He never says much but he would use this corner spot to his advantage to ask questions.  Given the opportunity to change seats in the second semester - he didn’t.  He chose to stay right where he was. He took ownership of his own learning by knowing that this was the spot he needed to be in.  This desk will now be the only empty seat in that class.”

Another Trinity teacher shared, “Nolan was in my Literature and Composition class during 9th grade. During our unit over Homer’s The Odyssey, I asked all my students to write about what makes a person a hero.

“A hero is made by someone who works hard and puts in the effort to go the extra mile and help people and make someone’s day better. A hero is someone who even though they may not be known or gain anything from it will still do good for the community. To be a hero you do not need to have everybody’s respect. All you need to be a hero is to be nice and show kindness even if you gain nothing from it. Be nice and treat others how you want to be treated. You do not need to be perfect or have a high status in the world to be a hero. If you yourself want to be a hero you need to start doing good deeds and helping others even when there is no reward, you need to be kind and you need to be generous. If you help others then most likely you will inspire others who want to do the same, to start acting these good actions out which can then inspire others. If we all start acting nice, we could have a better world where all people are nice and always help each other out. There wouldn’t be many fights because all there would be is people being nice to each other. That is what it means to be a great hero, to inspire people, to not look down on others, and to be kind, generous, and grateful for everything and to everyone in the world.”

Nolan lived his definition of a hero out in his life. Though he was calm and quiet, Nolan was welcoming to everyone. He was always smiling and always ready to help. He was polite, respectful, and kind. He was a blessing to my class.”

Nolan Thompson was loved. Nolan Thompson will be remembered. And Nolan’s family will be held in our prayers especially during this difficult time ahead. Trinity means family.

Trinity Baptism Night

Trinity Baptism Night

By Samantha DePriest

High School Bible Teacher KC Lorow shared scripture.

On Monday evening March 20th at 7pm in the High School Multipurpose Room our students, parents, friends, and extended family filled up every available seat as they gathered to celebrate the baptism of 14 Trinity high school students. What started as a space with 100 chairs set up around a baptismal quickly filled and became a space where over 300 seats were brought in with staff standing along the back and sides of the room as well as students sitting on the floor. What a cloud of witnesses it was!

Jesus is King! (Image by Samantha DePriest)

TCS Staff AB and Lizzie Perez opened the evening by leading us in beautiful songs of worship to prepare our hearts. High School Bible teachers and Discipleship Group leaders Patrick Brannon, KC Lorow, Chris Paschal, Reed Shackelford, and Ron Edwards each spoke and shared encouragement through scripture while performing baptisms. They invited each of the students up to the podium one at a time where they spoke confidently about their Faith journey thus far and how they were ready to take the next step in baptism. They shared personal stories of how they have felt God working in their lives and why they wanted to surrender their lives over to Him. As each student stepped into the water, their family and friends were called to the front and surrounded them. What a beautiful picture of God’s people loving and supporting one another during one of the biggest decisions they will make in their life.

Students and staff shared words of encouragement in keepsake journals for the students who were baptized (Image by Samantha DePriest)

Over the course of the 2 hours, the Lord’s presence was evident. Once every student was baptized, there was a time of fellowship. Though it was almost 9pm on a Monday night, no one ran for the doors. Families stayed, friends hugged, and students filled beautiful keepsake journals with words of encouragement for each of the students to take home and read. What a thoughtful treasure.

TCS parent Bridget Paschal shares, “Just another reason I am so thankful to be a apart of the Trinity family! Thank you to all the teachers, coaches, and staff that pour their lives and love of Jesus into our kids. God is at work at Trinity Christian School and I am so thankful for these students boldness to profess their Faith and commitment to walk with Jesus!”

Trinity Varsity Softball Coach Katey Rutherford attended both the Trinity Baptism Night and also the baptism at one of her players the day before at her church home. Coach Katey shares, “My heart is so full of joy for these girls. God is writing a beautiful story for their lives and this is the only the beginning! So grateful the Lord gives me the opportunity to love, coach, lead, and most importantly learn from these girls. They are alive and forgiven, found and free, proclaiming their new life in Christ. THIS is what it is all about!

TCS parent Nancy McPherson and Mom to Caroline McPherson shares, “Trinity has opened my children’s eyes and strengthened their walk with Christ in so many ways. There are just no words to describe how powerful the evening was. 14 amazing young people dedicated their life and I am so happy we were a part of it. I am in awe of the Bible teachers at Trinity - thru them God is changing lives!”

Dr. Anthony shared this week, “In a recent all-staff devotional time, I had asked the staff to join me in prayer - asking that our students would experience a revival in their hearts, similar to what we are hearing about at Asbury Seminary. Afterwards, one of our HS bible teachers informed, "Dr. Anthony, God is moving in our classes, mission trips, and chapel services. I think we are already experiencing revival!"

Then, while I was on a church staff retreat in North Georgia, I received several messages and pictures of baptisms taking place in the HS auditorium. 14 of our HS students made a public profession of their faith before 300 of their closest family, friends, and peers. The encouragement, worship, support, and celebration was so meaningful to those who were able to attend.

God is moving in our midst. While He is touching our students, maybe you could take a moment and ask Jesus to touch you too!”

LES MISERABLES

Les MisERABLES

By Samantha DePriest

If you were lucky enough to get tickets to watch the Roaring Dramatics rendition of “Les Miserables” last weekend, than you know what an incredible performance it was! All four nights of performances sold out in both General Admission and the VIP seating. It was a show of all shows and one that will go down in the memory books as one of the greatest Trinity Christian School has ever produced.

Mrs. Perez, Director (Image by Evan Davison)

Director Mrs. Lizzie Perez shares, “What an absolutely honor to spend my first full year at TCS with the most talented and passionate students and parents I have ever met. Last year when we worked together for Beauty and the Beast, Mr. Zarlenga and I looked at each other and knew we had the talent to pull off this incredible show. To that point, they have completely exceeded every expectation - from their talent, to their preparation, their hard work, and more importantly their heart.

Mr. and Mrs. Tapley enjoying the VIP experience at Les Mis. (Image by Evan Davison)

This story comes with so much hope amidst the darkness of this world. Through out we meet and fall in love with characters wrestling and struggling with this idea of, “climbing to the light” smack in the middle of consuming darkness.”

Seniors Josh Taylor and Hannah Gibbs (Image by Shannon Dallas)

Mrs. Perez goes on to share, “If we are honest, in this world we are all The Poor Ones without Christ. Like Fantine we are all searching for anyhing that can solve our problems or fill the void in our lives. Like the Thenardiers, we search for ways where can come out on top, no matter the cost. Like Eponine, we long for things that cannot be and forge any way to make those dreams a reality. LIke Javert even, we hold tighjt on the black and white of this world, gripping to what we can control and losing all sense of reality. And like Valjean, we ALL fall short and listen to the voices that tell us who we are labels as, instead of what we are called to be.

We are all climbing to the light, the true and lasting Light, and thank God hHe sent His Son to save us.

Gabe Rivera carrying Josh Taylor (Image by Shannon Dallas)

I think it is safe to say directing Les Miserables has changed my life for the better. When, like our main character Valjean, you come face to face with grace in your life, my prayer is that you would chose to grasp hold of that grace, not your accomplishments, and cling to the true freedom found only in love.”

From cast to crew and front of house experience, there were 65 incredible students and dozens of devoted parents and staff involved with make up, hair, choreography, VIP experience, backstage crew, technical elements, and actors!

Nick Andrews and Isaiah Ware (Image by Shannon Dallas)

Students auditioned right before Thanksgiving break last year and had a couple of weeks of rehearsal in the Fall. The productions took just over 12 weeks to prepare for. Our Roaring Dramatics received generous support and encouragement from The Logos Theatre, founded by Gabe Rivera’s grandparents and now run by his aunt and uncle.

Mrs. Perez is grateful to ALL staff and parents that gave of their time in addition to their day to day roles: TCS Staff. Nicholas Yeakley, Thomas Schatzberg, Chris Litton, Dale Zarlenga, Kiley Huddleston, Jenn Duncan, and TCS parents Amber Poelman, Lisa Wootten, and Clark and Ashley Johnson. A very special thanks also to Jennifer Cook painting the sets and to Mark Cannon for building the sets!  The cast and crew are beyond thankful to photographers and videographer’s Shannon Dallas, Oscar Camejo, and Evan Davison for capturing the events in photos and videos.. And Mrs. Perez is so very proud of senior student Michelina Ryan for her choreography of the entire show!

Mrs. Perez shares, “One of the best and most impactful parts of this show are the conversations our students are starting to have after experiencing Les Mis. Leaning into grace and really wrestling with times when they, like Javert, have been so hard nosed and open to the idea of the TRUE freedom found in the Love of Christ.”

Dr. Anthony sharing closing remarks. (Image by Evan Davison)

TCS Head of School Dr. Anthony attended three out of four performances and was truly inspired. He shared at the end of the performances a vision for a brand new Performing Arts space for our school. We can’t wait to see what God does in the years to come and have faith that it will far surpass anything we could even imagine.

In closing, Mrs. Perez shares “Thank you to all who made this story come to life, from actors to tech, to the experience of the patrons!”

TCS Hosts 1st Youth Soccer Night

TCS Hosts 1st Youth Soccer Night

By Samantha DePriest

On Tuesday, March 14th, Trinity hosted the 1st Youth Soccer Night in Lions Stadium. Little Lions from PreK through 5th grade were encouraged to come out wearing their favorite soccer jersey and be a part of the fun. Though it was very cold outside, almost 20 players with their parents braved the weather. The little lions were invited to walk out with the Varsity teams, sing the national anthem together, serve as ball boys and girls during the games, and even play in a mini scrimmage on the field during half time.

TCS Director of Soccer Mike Townson shared that he couldn’t be more excited about the future of the soccer program at Trinity. His goal is to continue building a strong foundation and a successful soccer program. Development of our youngest players will make for some great competition on our Middle School and High School teams in the future.

Soccer Youth Night was the first for our school but definitely won’t be the last. With Soccer being one of the most popular sports in the US and in the world, participation in this sport continues to be on the rise. Coach Townson shared an email from a parent whose daughter participated in the Youth Night, “Good morning! I wanted to thank you for providing the opportunity for the little girls to be on the soccer field last night with the big girls. My daughter is in second grade and loved it!! She was so nervous, but had a great time. She said Olivia talked to her about soccer and asked her lots of questions which made her feel at ease. She mentioned again, first thing this morning, about what a great time she had and she's ready to do it again. Thank you for all you do!”  - TCS Mom

Yosemite GO Week

Yosemite GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

Well we saved the best for last!! It has been such a blessing to learn about each of the 2023 GO Week trips our students and staff went on this past January. The chance for them to share their Faith and serve others while visiting and exploring God’s creation in new places making new friends. With teams visiting 3 different continents, we loved sharing about their trips to Arizona, Ecuador, Europe, South Florida, Montana, Puerto Rico, and Yosemite.

Our Yosemite GO Week team was led by High School Science teacher Mr. Taylor Bouma, High School Counselor Department Head Mrs. Kayla Whittle, and High School AP Geography Teacher/Finance teacher Mr. Brian Fourman. The team ran into some bad weather upon arrival and had to make some last minute adjustments to their trip, but they weathered out the storm and made the best of it. The team of several staff and 50 students visited Dave & Buster’s until the storm passed on, then hiked Land’s End and Golden Gate Park, explored Fisherman’s Wharf and even rode bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge. Exploring the west coast of our beautiful country was both eye opening and memorable for this wonderful group of students and staff.

Mrs. Whittle shared, “It was certainly an adventure! We are so thankful to Joshua Expeditions for ensuring our lodging and safety. We are so thankful for God's faithful hand of protection. The conditions where we were in San Francisco were a little damp/rainy with mild wind as well. The students were phenomenal, we were truly so proud of them! Mr. Fourman led a great devotional on the bus, reminding all our students that even when our expectations are busted, God is in control and His sovereign plan is bigger and better than we can comprehend. Thank you for trusting us as we navigated this challenging situation. As always, safety and care for our students remained our top priority. We love you and your children and were committed to ensuring this experience was quality!”

Mr. Bouma shared, “The weather our group ran into was more than just some "bad weather". We had to deal with what they were referring to as a "bomb cyclone", the first of its kind. Truly just the BEST news you can have when you are 2,000 miles from home travelling with 50 students! However, I think it brought about some great conversations and teaching moments. Our plans will not always go as we hoped. It's about what you are able to do with what you're given and where you are putting your trust. The students had to trust us that we were making the best decisions for their safety and we had to trust the Lord with leading us in making those decisions.

We really got to see some incredible sights. The west coast has so much to offer with the Golden Gate Bridge to the incredible sunsets and the Pacific Ocean all right there. I think the biggest impact on the students was having to try to keep a positive attitude, while having a completely different trip than they were expecting. Expecting to go to Yosemite, one of the great natural wonders we have, and not even getting to see it was a huge let down. However, the students were still able to make memories and enjoy each other's company in the process. The entire trip felt like overcoming adversity. We had to wing everything the day of. We woke up expecting to go to the Sequoia National Forest only to find out it was closed to the public due to the storms that had just come in. The trip was full of pivoting and making the most out of the situation we were dealt. Always remembering who was in control.”

Despite the trip not going exactly as they had planned, when we asked some of the students what their favorite parts were, they shared some of their fondest memories.

Elizabeth Derhammer- "My favorite part was walking around Land's End and seeing the sunset over the ocean and riding bikes around San Francisco."

Hollie Batchelor- "My favorite part of the trip was growing closer with people and exploring Land's End."

Chloe Reed- "I loved getting to go to Fisherman's Wharf and shop around. Interacting with all of the sea lions and listening to them bark was also really entertaining."

Mr. Bouma continued, “All in all, when you consider that everything that could go wrong, did in fact go wrong, it was a cherished time with an incredible group of students that I wouldn't trade for anything. I wish things could've gone as planned, but I know the Lord was teaching us all how to trust in Him even when everything else is falling apart. If at the end of the day, all we are able to say we have are the friends surrounding us and our faith in Jesus, I'd say we're doing more than alright.”

In closing, Mr. Fourman shared, “Through all the weather adversity the team experienced, God’s hand of protection was on us. The team learned patience and understanding as we were forced to change plans multiple times. The Joshua Expeditions team leaders and those behind the scenes at the corporate offices worked tirelessly to adjust our itinerary to make sure we had the best experience possible given the circumstances. That was a blessing knowing that people were looking out for our well-being.”

"Read Across America Week" at TCS

“Read Across America WeeK” at TCS

By Samantha DePriest

Trinity Christian School celebrated “Read Across America Week” Monday, February 27th through Friday, March 3rd. Each day our Lower and Upper School classroom teachers prepared engaging lessons filled with a wide variety of reading and writing activities for our students.

Our classrooms had several special people visit to read to them. Assistant Head of School Mr. Bass, High School Principal Mrs. Jones, and Lower School Principal Mrs. Randolph to name just a few. They all loved reading to our little Lions and encouraged them to read as many books as they could to compete in the Grade Level Reading contest last week. (Grade level winners to be announced soon)

Mrs. Felkner, our Lower School STEAM teacher, had a fun “Raindrop Plop” Science lesson for our Early Learning classes in GO Church with foam and food coloring, it just doesn’t get any better! Our students loved it!

Themed dress down days were the highlight of the week as well and our students loved getting dressed up almost as much as our teachers and staff!

  • Monday: Crazy Hat Day

  • Tuesday: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

  • Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday

  • Thursday: Thing 1 and Thing 2 Day

  • Friday: Crazy Sock Day

Trinity Hosts 1st TCS Soccer Showcase

Trinity Hosts 1st TCS Soccer Showcase

By Samantha DePriest

On Saturday, March 4th Trinity Christian School hosted the “TCS Soccer Showcase” for more than a dozen high school soccer teams from all over Georgia. After a rainy and windy week, the weather couldn’t have been any better for some friendly competition. If it’s one thing TCS Director of Soccer and Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Mike Townson knows, it’s that athletes are eager to have as many opportunities to play the sport they love as possible.

Coach Townson shared, “TCS had the great opportunity to showcase our top notch facility in the TCS Soccer Showcase. We had some of the best teams in the state playing in front of college coaches. Anything we can do to promote our players we will do to help get them into college.” As a result of the showcase, several high school soccer players received offers from college coaches. We couldn’t be more excited for these student athletes and what is in store for them this Fall!

Coach Aaron Wessner from Sprayberry High School shared, “Trinity Christian provided one of the best showcases that Sprayberry has ever taken part in. The facilities were amazing and Coach Townson’s tireless efforts to make sure our players had access to college coaches and were able to discuss their abilities are unmatched. I would highly suggest other teams bring their players to this showcase in the future so that their players can be highlighted like ours have been.”

Coach Bobby Jarwoski from GMC High School shared, “The showcase was able to squeeze our Girls teams into the lineup at the last minute. Both of our teams had an amazing time seeing a different areas of the state, and teams we might not have ever had a chance to play. The showcase itself ran smoothly, had great facilities, and had some really cool ammentities to offer the kids, parents, and fans. College coaches were present and spoke with our players. As a coach, we hope to extend opportunities for all of our kids. This event checked every box.”

Coach Jon Callahan from LaGrange High School shared, “My team and I greatly enjoyed the showcase event at Trinity Christian School!

Coach Townson and his staff at TCS really rolled out the red carpet for us and all the teams involved. Their first class facilities as well as great and diverse competition really made for an outstanding event in front of many college coaches. We will certainly be back next year.”

Andrews College Head Coach Kyle Griffith shared, “The TCS Soccer Showcase was a fantastic event! Coach Townson organized and ran this showcase as well or better than any tournament or showcase I have ever attended. I came away super impressed with the soccer that was on display. This will definitely be an event that Andrew College Men’s Soccer attend every year!

Local food truck owner Mike Chavez and his “Biscuits & Burrito’s” business kept all of the players and parents well few with their delicious food. There wasn’t a time between games when there wasn’t a line of hungry folks at their food truck.

With the help of from the Sprayberry High School team, our Boys soccer team and Trinity Soccer parent, Weston Godfrey, put their brand new TEQball table together and had some fun with it before they took the field for their 8pm game. Our Varsity Boys soccer team are now 3-3-3 for the season and 1-0-0 in Region after their 7-2 win against Fayette High School last Friday night.

If you have a child who is interested in soccer, it’s couldn’t be a better time to get them involved in the growing program here at Trinity. It’s a great time to be a Lion!

Trinity Church and Trinity Christian School hosts Father Daughter and Mother Son Night

Trinity Church and Trinity Christian School hosts Father Daughter and Mother Son Night

By Samantha DePriest

Last week Trinity Church partnered with Trinity Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) to host a Father Daughter Dance and Mother Son Game Night on Friday, February 24th. The purpose for these fun events was to provide an opportunity for families to spend meaningful time together and make memories that would last a lifetime.

Due to an overwhelming response, there were 2 dances and both were sold out. What an amazing turn out and blessing for our families! Our Mother Son Game night was full as well and such a gift of time for all in attendance.

Trinity Varsity Football Coach and M46 Dad cofounder Kenny Dallas opened up the Father Daughter Dances with a word of prayer and encouragement to our Dad’s. M46 DADS inspires and equips fathers to intentionally fight for the hearts of their children (M46 Dads). They meet on the last Friday morning of the month here in the Student Center at Trinity Church/Trinity Christian School at 6:30am. The next meeting is Friday, March 31st. Coach Dallas encourages Dad’s to constantly pour into their children and to “fill their cups”.

Our Fathers and daughters enjoyed a special time of dancing, meeting Disney princesses, and enjoying a sweet treat together that included strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, and graham crackers to dip in chocolate.

Trinity Church Kids Pastor Kami Hellman opened up the Mother Son Game event with a word of encouragement from the story about Bathsheba and King Solomon. King Solomon wrote about the importance of following a mother’s guidance throughout life in Proverbs.

Pastor Kami encouraged our Mom’s to savor every moment with their sons, to embrace their endless energy, and savor their silliness. The Mother’s and sons came dressed up in 4 different colors and broke into teams. Two of the teams made their own ice cream sundaes and took pictures in the photo booth in the High School Multipurpose Room, while the other 2 teams went outside to play kickball in the stadium. Moments after the first 2 groups went outside to play kickball, it started raining cats and dogs. They boys of course loved playing in the rain and getting soaking wet. The Mom’s cheered their boys on for a few innings while taking shelter under the tent. The boys said it was the “BEST NIGHT EVER!” and the Mom’s did too. Once everyone came inside and enjoyed their sundaes, the games continued. Lots of laughter filled the air and we are pretty sure everyone left tired.

Trinity Church Kids Pastor Kami Hellman shared, “As we all know, we can get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget to slow down and enjoy our families. Our families are a gift from God and we want to treasure the time we have together. Thank you TCS, for your amazing support and involvement in these events. We look forward to hosting these special family events again next year. All of the proceeds benefited our missions-giving through the church and we were able to raise nearly $3,000! We split the money between our youth missions. The first is Speed the Light (link) which buys vehicles for missionaries, helps provides wells, and other vital equipment needed to spread the gospel and our kids missions. The second youth mission we support is Boys & Girls Missionary Challenge (BGMC) which provides missionaries with the funds needed to supplement feeding programs, school fees, and whatever else they need to reach boys & girls around the world with the good news of Jesus! Our goal for Speed the Light and BGMC is $25,000 EACH for 2023! Last year we raised around $22,000 each. With God’s help, we can do it!”

Coach Dallas’s wife, Shannon Dallas, captured so many precious moments at the Father Daughter dance and below are the links for each of the dances for viewing, saving, and printing.

2023 Trinity hosts Track & Field All Comers Meet

2023 Trinity hosts Track & Field All Comers Meet

By Samantha DePriest

On Saturday, February 25th Trinity Christian School hosted the Track & Field All Comers Meet with 19 schools and over 738 student athletes in attendance. The meet was dedicated to Javier Jenkins who served for 23 years as a staff member at Dominion Christian School. Coach Jenkins is a hero in the eyes of many of our TCS T&F Coaching staff.

Trinity Director of Track & Field and Student Development Coach JP Weaver shares, “Congratulations to each student athlete who is a part of the TCS T&F team.  The coaching staff is motivated about the full effort that resulted in the overall performances in all the jumping, throwing, and running events that were a part of the competition.  The boys and girls teams both finished in the top 3 overall for High School and Middle School.

Competition Results (2/25): http://milesplit.live/meets/504965

Additionally, the Lion Nation volunteers deserve a huge round of applause for stepping right in the middle of the experience to make the Lion All-Comers Meet a huge success.  Without the involvement from our volunteers, it's impossible to run an event of this magnitude to be successful from all different angles.

To have all the coaches, spectators, officials and vendors on campus to participate in the event from start to finish was well worth each minute of the 9 hour event.  Personally, I am grateful for the home meet experience that included having over 730 middle and high school student athletes competing on campus this past weekend.  Not to mention, understanding at times, there were over 1,500 people inside the stadium to be a part of the event!

We faced some adversity at times which included battling it out with the weather starting on Friday afternoon that was consistent throughout the event.  Adjustments were also made during the meet due to technical difficulties, but each volunteer and official didn't miss a beat to continue running the event.”

Montana GO Week

Montana GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

Our Montana GO Week team led by High School Bible Teacher Patrick Brannon spent time in Livingston, Montana. Mr. Brannon had visited Expedition Church twice in years past with mission groups from Crossroads Church, however this was the first year to take a team from Trinity Christian School. Expedition Church Pastor Daryl and his wife Veronica are originally from south Coastal Alabama where he was a Senior pastor at a church. They were surprised to learn that 9 out of 10 are disconnected from God in Livingston, Montana and moved there to plant a church.

Mr. Brannon was accompanied by 4 Trinity teachers and 41 students on the trip and shares, “It was eye opening for our students and reminded them how fortunate they are to grow up in Faith environment. When you’re not raised in a Faith based home, you tend to reject and resist Faith.” He went on to share. “40-50 teams come every year to support this church and serve the community from all over the country. Trinity’s team was the 1st team of the new year to serve at Expedition Church.

The team visited Sacajawea Park and spent one day serving the Livingston Park County Sanitation Department. Mr. Warren, the Sanitation Director, shared that the community doesn’t have traffic service for various reasons. Instead they have a community trash site and strong winds and storms had come through recently and trash blew everywhere. Trinity High School Director of Student Development as well as Track & Field Coach Weaver shared, “Without a second thought, all of our students and leaders stepped up as a team and cleaned up the entire location in a short amount of time. Mr. Warren was overwhelmed by their help and to show his gratitude, he hosted a pizza party that night. He sent a dozen pizzas to the church for the team. He even commented that he was blown away by the way the group served joyfully and with excellence.” That evening Pastor Daryl shared devotions and how the church got started.

Expeditions are popular in Montana. He went on to explain that an expedition is a journey or excursion that you are going out to accomplish something. He wanted to soften the soil of the hearts of the people of Livingston so that God could come in and plant seeds to prepare for the work of the Lord. He shared that, “The heartbeat of the church is to say “YES” to all needs and to do whatever it takes. And simplicity creates margin so that we may do what God has called us to do. Complexity takes away that margin.” Expedition Church has 60-70 attendees on a regular basis.

Mr. Brannon shared that, “It was encouraging for the students to hear the authenticity and genuineness of Pastor Daryl’s heart because he doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. His obedience and clear mission have reached many in the town.” The team also had the chance to tour Livingston that evening and walk on the frozen lake.

The GO Week team spent a day in Yellowstone Park “The Granddaddy of all National Parks” and visited Paradise Valley, Teddy Roosevelt’s arch, and saw many elk and buffalo. It even started snowing while they were visiting the park which added to the beauty all around them.

The final day of serving, the team helped packed food bags as the church serves as a food distribution center. They also helped host a Youth service that 15 Middle and High School students attended. They had pizza, sandwiches, games, songs, fellowship, and Mr. Brannon shared a message. Some youth parents stayed to experience the event and got to hear the gospel. Our Trinity students couldn’t believe that the students they invited to the youth service all came to it, Coach Weaver shared, “Our students stepped up with pure excitement to welcome in these students.  The Trinity students were unbelievable with their inspiring leadership, and humble attitudes, embracing the community with arms wide open.”

Mr. Brannon shared that he was in awe of how God orchestrated their time of serving in Montana and reminded our students, “Don’t take for granted the environment you are in. Don’t miss that. TCS is special, Be thankful for the opportunities. This is why we do what we do, to help you become who and what God has called you to be. And remember how you can influence those around you.” At the end of the week, Pastor Daryl got teary and said “Thank ya’ll for loving on our town. It’s incredible to see 41 ‘all-in’ teenagers serving.”

Trinity 8th Grader Visits the Capitol

Trinity 8th Grader Visits the Capitol

By Samantha DePriest

Collier Benz is the oldest of 4 children, an 8th grader here at TCS, and has been a Trinity Lion since the 1st grade. He won 4th in State in Middle School Archery, plays goalie for the Trinity Middle School lacrosse team, and loves Social Studies and learning about World War 2. This past February break, Collier had the opportunity to serve as a Page in the House of Representatives in the Capitol in Atlanta.

Historically, Pages have served as messengers bringing documents between members of the House and Senate. “For over 50 years, the experience of a legislative Page has sparked many political aspirations and has been a connective link between elected leaders and Georgia’s young students” (www.legis.ga.gov/house/page-program).

Collier applied for the Page program that is specifically for 12-18 year olds. They select a specific number of Pages per legislative session. Once he arrived, he went through orientation, took a tour, received lunch, and served 4 hours on the floor. Collier was given a Page button which allowed him on the floor with the other Pages and Representatives. His Mom, Laura Benz, enjoyed watching him from upstairs in the gallery. Collier brought copies of bills and messages/notes between Representatives in the House of Representatives. At the end of his time serving, he earned a certificate and even got a small stipend. He banged the gavel and took a picture with the Representative and Speaker of the House as well. We love hearing about all the things our students do off campus and are so proud of Collier spending a day during his winter break serving others!

Lady Lions Basketball Team make history!

Lady Lions Basketball Team make history!

By Samantha DePriest

What a season it has been for our Lady Lions Basketball team!! We couldn’t be excited to share that our girls won the 2022-2023 Region 4A Championship game on Friday night!! Head Coach Joe Daniels was also voted Co-Coach of the Year for Region 4A. Congratulations to Coach Daniels and the entire coaching staff, and our Lady Lions on making Trinity history. We can’t wait to cheer you all on in State this Tuesday night at home at 6pm against Southeast Bulloch.

Coach Daniels shares, “This, by many, would have been considered a rebuilding year. We are a smaller team. We have spent the season without Lalah Logan - a beloved starter - due to injury. We stepped up in classifications from GHSA 1A Private to 4A and were not welcomed warmly in most places. Adversity has been the backdrop of the entire season. Through it all, we emerged as Region Champions last night.”

“This team finished the regular season 20-5, we were 13-1 in Region play, and 3-0 in the Region Tournament! I cannot begin to describe this group of young ladies and the character they have showed this season! Their will, determination, and willingness to fight together is unmatched, and our staff is honored to be their coaches. Congrat’s Lady Lions! You are CHAMPIONS! Now on to the State Tournament!”

Puerto Rico GO Week

Puerto Rico GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

Our Puerto Rico GO Week Team of 32 students and 1 TCS parent was led by High School Principal Kimberly Jones accompanied by Varsity Football Coach Kenny Dallas and High School Spanish teacher Nathan Blevins. This was Mrs. Jones second time leading the Puerto Rico GO Week trip and shared, “Our group served at YWAM (Youth With a Mission) and at the Center Cristiano Casa de Pacto assisting with painting, cleaning, and setting up their converted meeting space. Because of our students help, the center was ready to welcome families for services this Sunday. Praise the Lord! After serving in the community and putting in hours of work each day, our group enjoyed the sights in Old San Juan and even took a catamaran adventure complete with sand, scuba, slides, and smiles galore! We have enjoyed all aspects of our Puerto Rican adventure together!”

Trinity High School Spanish teacher Nathan Blevins shared, “I was able to go on the Puerto Rico trip with Coach Dallas, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Stiehl (one of the senior's parent) and over 30 of our high school students. It was great to get to know some of our students on a closer level outside of the classroom, as well as get to know some students I did not know at all. We were able to work with YWAM (Youth With a Mission) which is a group that partners with local schools and churches to reach young people. The main focus of our work was helping prepare YWAM's facility for the upcoming school year, which begins in January in Puerto Rico. Our students jumped right in landscaping (mowing, weedeating, cutting down trees with chainsaws, hacking down heavy brush with machetes), prepping and painting fences, doing drywall, pressure washing and clearing out rooms. It was really neat to see our students jump in without hesitation or complaint to do some very tedious and difficult work.

On a personal note, it was fun for me to get to use my Spanish in a non-classroom setting. I had several conversations with the YWAM leader and it was cool to see how encouraged he was by our group and how our efforts helped energized him and his team for the beginning of their busy season.

Our group was also able to experience the local culture by walking the streets and markets of Old San Juan, exploring the area near our hotel, and enjoying the beach and a catamaran cruise.

Overall I think it was a great experience for our group and our students gained a bigger appreciation for how blessed we are. I also think that it gave them a deeper sense of what really matters in life and how happiness is a result of a personal relationship with God!”

Florida Keys GO Week

Florida Keys GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

In last week’s article we traveled across the pond and learned about the Europe GO Week trip led by Mrs. Forde. This week we are back in the States to share about the Florida Keys GO Week trip. This GO Week trip was lead by High School Science Teacher and Varsity Swim Coach Devin James and fellow High School Science teacher Mr. Tommy Stell, as well as High School Literature teachers Mrs. Anna Maupin and Mrs. Ruth Wolleat.

The team flew into Miami and visited Little Havana to experience the culture by tasting the delicious Cuban food and coffee, listening to the language and music, shopping local handmade goods, and visiting an Art museum. Some of the older students were even able to create their own graffiti art at the museum.

The next few days the team spent their time exploring the Keys and were blessed with sunshine and warm temperatures. Day trips to Key Largo and Islamorada included a snorkeling tour, kayak excursion, dolphin encounter, airboat ride through the Everglades, and more.

Mr. James shared, “Our students spent time marveling at God's creation by snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins, kayaking, and more.”

Mr. James shared, “Our students also spent time at the Redlands Migrant Christian Association. They support the migrant community and our TCS students specifically helped in the childcare facilities. Students were split up in a bunch of different classrooms and helped the kids play, read, color, draw, and do puzzles. Our students did a great job with kids and we were really proud of how quickly they jumped in.”

A little boy named Stephen, who wore a Spiderman sweatshirt, took a liking to the Trinity students and enjoyed playing games with them. When it was time for our student to leave, Stephen started crying and didn’t want them to go. It touched the hearts of all of our students that in such a short time they could make such an impact. Stephen will surely be remembered and prayed for by all of our students and staff.

Senior Dylan DePriest shared “It was an amazing experience to explore South Florida. I had never been to the Keys before. One of the coolest things we learned about was while kayaking through the mangroves, there is a particular plant which has one leaf that absorbs all the toxins so that the other leaves may thrive. It reminded us about Jesus taking the punishment for our sins.

It was such an amazing time with friends and teachers. We definitely made a lot of memories on our trip. I will never forget little Stephen at the school we served at. This GO Week trip was a highlight of my Senior year at Trinity.”

Mrs. Anna Maupin echoed Mr. James sentiments and shared “We were astounded by God’s creation during our trip to the Florida Keys! Our favorite part of the trip was definitely getting to play with the migrant workers children!

Europe GO Week

Europe GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

We continue on this journey of learning about the stories and memories from our GO Week teams who traveled around the world to serve others and be immersed in God’s creation. This week we sat down with GO Week leader Mrs. Quincy Forde to hear about her teams journey across the pond to visit London, Normandy, and Paris on a trip known as the “World War II trip”. Mrs. Forde has been teaching at Trinity for 14 years and teaches AP US Government and Politics, both AP and Honors US History, and AP Psychology. She also serves as our National Honor Society Advisor for the High School. There is no one better than her to lead this group.

Mrs. Forde shared, “On January 1st, 35 Trinity students, teachers, parents, grandparents, and even 3 Trinity Alumni embarked on a life-changing World War 2 trip to London, Normandy, and Paris with Education First (EF) Tours.

Highlights in London included our exploration of the Churchill Warrooms, the Imperial War museum, the Royal Air Force museum, the US Belfast, and Bletchley Park where the German encoding machine, Enigma, was decoded. We also took an evening adventure into the West End for "dinner and a show": fish and chips, and the Lion King. In Paris, we were awed by the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Les Invalides, the Palace of Versailles, and a Paris-by-night boat cruise along the Seine.

The most meaningful part of our trip, however, was visiting the beaches of Normandy. Here students read letters or poetry they had composed, and contemplated the enormous sacrifice made by the Allies on D-Day.

Cameron Todhunter - a TCS senior who is on course to join the US Air Force - represented Trinity at the American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. Together with his grandfather, combat veteran Col. Marcel Fauk, USA, (Ret.) he laid a wreath of remembrance before a three volley salute and the playing of taps. The Star Spangled Banner never sounded more moving as we stood and surveyed the field of white crosses lying quietly beneath our fluttering flag.

The travelers agreed that our nine days in Europe were profoundly rich in learning and relationship, and well worth the investment.”

Mrs. Forde shared that the forecast called for rain but thanks be to God, they wound up having just a couple cloudy days and mostly beautiful weather. She also spoke of what a blessing it was that they were able to make visits to several places that weren’t on the original itinerary. The addition of such supportive parents and grandparents on the trip added to the richness of the experience.

Over the course of their trip, the students developed relationships with their tour director and bus driver. Students studied and learned about World War II Christians and each shared a story about their lives in devotions with the group and the EF guides. Mrs. Forde encouraged the students, “Do what God puts in front of you now and do it well.” On the steps of their hotel, the group prayed over the tour director. What a beautiful example of walking in the Faith!

Ecuador GO Week: Cotacachi

Ecuador GO Week

By Samantha DePriest

Two of our GO Week trips traveled to Ecuador last month to serve internationally. One of our trips was to Cuenca and was featured last week in the “Inside the Pride” and also on our website under Latest Stories. The 2nd trip to was to a place called Cotacachi, Ecuador. Ecuador is located on the west coast of South America bordering Colombia on the north and Peru on the south sitting on the equator. The city of Cotacachi is home to approximately 40,000 people and is famous for its leather goods. It is known as “leather town” for the abundance of shops that sell various leather products.

Ecuador GO Week Team led by Assistant Director of Student Development in the High School and High School Spanish teacher Mr. Reed Shackelford, who students lovingly refer to as “Shack”. Mr. Shackelford shares “We served alongside fellow believers from different parts of Ecuador. We served on a farm in the mountains helping with construction needs, harvesting fruit, and teaching kids how to play baseball. We also helped a local church build new walls, stain walls, and helped preserve the current place where they worship.

We had many meaningful conversations with believers about who the Lord is and how the same Lord that changes and works in our lives is the same Lord who is changing lives and working in lives in Ecuador. One of the most impactful things that we experienced was that we are all worshiping the same God no matter the language.

This trip was one of the most impactful trips that I have had the opportunity to be a part of. We served with Teen Street in Cotacachi and the surrounding areas. The original plan that we had for the week was changed a week before we left, but the Lord's plans were bigger than our plans.

We had the opportunity to serve with a youth group at a farm that is owned by the church that we were serving with. The farm is named "Finca Proveedor" which means Provider Farm in English. The farm grows coffee, lemons, peppers, and many other vegetables. The profits from the farm help support the people who work on the farm as well as meet needs of the people in their community. We also had the opportunity to pick many of the crops as well as help with maintenance on the farm. We were serving and working alongside a youth group in the community.

Even though there was an obvious language barrier between our students and their students, it was so amazing to see our students serve diligently and build relationships with fellow believers even though they spoke a different language.

The rest of the week, we worked at a church that was established during the height of the pandemic. Through the Lord's faithfulness, this church has grown incredibly. We were able to help meet a need for the church. The church had a roof, but that was it. Throughout the week we were able to refinish the existing wood structure and help put up new walls. Our guys worked so hard and learned a lot of new skills. On Sunday, we worshiped with this church during their service.

Senior Shawn Braxton shared this take away, "Even though we were worshipping in a different language, it was amazing to realize that we were worshiping the same God."

Memorable experiences like these give our students opportunities to put into practice all that they are learning both in school and in their homes. These are some of the main reasons our families tell us they choose Trinity Christian for their children’s education. The spiritual foundation and mentorship by our teachers and staff help give our students a place to launch that is unlike any other.
